RE: Pitt game thread - JeebsOak - 11-01-2025

That felt like a really mediocre Pitt team that their fans are somehow claiming is a playoff team. Man I wish Stanford would have had the twelve team playoff back in the golden years, those teams would have beat this Pitt squad by 20 +

RE: Pitt game thread - ADPinWDC - 11-01-2025

CONF CHAMP GAMES?
ACC:  GTEC vs VIRG...  MIAM out now, losing to SMU.  CLEM faded badly.  SMU, DUKE?
SEC:  TA&M vs BAMA...  GEOG lost to BAMA.  Aggies still undefeated.
BTEN:  OHST vs INDY...  Hoosiers beat Ducks, and Buckeyes - Hoosiers don't play in season.
B12:  BYU vs TTEC?   BYU plays in Cinci for Week 12, as the play-in game.

Brown likes CJ Williams... TD!  Both from Mater Dei.
Brown finishes 10 of 14 for 108 yards, and now a TD.  Nice.

yes, nice!  looked to me that the td throw was on a similar route to 2 of the ones that gulbranson threw short to a db. brown threw it perfectly.

I just don't understand Reich sticking with Gulbranson as long as he did.

Apparently not respectable enough for gostanford.com. They have reversed the scores in their banner.

Simply baffling.  In my 50+ years watching this team, I can't remember anything quite like this.  Brown is more accurate, more mobile, more decisive, has more touch, just better -- and it's not particularly close.  Anyone know if Stanford made an over-sized financial commitment to get Gulbranson?  Wondering if the coaching staff didn't want to be seen wasting money on a player?  "Something' must be happening behind the scenes -- I can't imagine Reich could watch this year's QB play and genuinely think Gulbranson puts the team in the best position to win.

RE: Pitt game thread - fullmetal - 11-01-2025

Brown didn't exactly distinguish himself vs. Florida State, so the best we can say is that neither QB has been developed well at Stanford so far, and I wish we were seeing better performance.  It's a very tough thing to be a Stanford student-athlete with high expectations that you're not meeting.  It's not like they want to be bad.

RE: Pitt game thread - needle - 11-01-2025

I think someone's going to hire Kade Bell to be an OC/HC if they get Heintschel as a package deal.

Stanford's more likely to hire Kerwin Bell, Kade's father (no, that's not likely either).

Well... Does Brown throwing to his Mater Dei buddy CJ Williams get the start @NCAR?

I very seriously doubt it. I don't think the coaching staff shares the very positive opinion some on this have about Brown. Maybe the staff is incorrect, but they undoubtedly see much more of both QBs that we fans do. Stanford has a chance to win next week. I don't think moving to Brown as the starter is going to happen. If Gulbranson comes out in turnover machine mode next week, I can see him being pulled for Brown.

IMO it is worthy of note that Gulbranson looked very good in the drive at the end of the first half that resulted in a FG. Does that mean he suddenly became good? No, he was taking what the defense gave him, and they gave slightly too much. Similarly, scoring a TD in garbage time is not necessarily indicative the offense is suddenly better. It generally means the defense is just trying to end the game with no injuries and maybe looking at some subs.

Everyone always, always, always forgets Louisville, who are 7-1 (and the best team in the ACC, imo).

sadly GT loses to NC state....

RE: Pitt game thread - chrisk - 11-01-2025

The Stanford losses in the ACC have come to teams with a combined SCC record of 16-4. The wins have come against teams with combined ACC record of 1-9. The remaining 2 games are against teams with a combined ACC record of 3-6.

Like Row80Critic, I have also watched Stanford football for 50+ years.  I thought I'd seen it all.  Can someone answer this question:  Has any other Stanford QB thrown 3 interceptions in one game before?  And frankly, there should have been more - there was the batted-up pass into double coverage that was unbelievably dropped by the defender, as one example.

Are you sure you watched last year, when Ashton Daniels threw 3 interceptions in not just one, but TWO separate games (Clemson and SJSU)? It was so recent!

Here are more:
2024: Daniels vs. Clemson & SJSU
2023: Daniels vs. OSU
2021: McKee vs. ASU
2020: Mills vs. UCLA
2018: Costello vs. UW
2016: Burns vs. Colorado

(Can't say I blame you for blocking these out of your memory though...)
