Not inconsistent with being told, you can keep your scholarship, but honest, we don't see you being an integral part of the team.

Maybe even more specific: "Kyle, when we brought you in here we thought you would be "the guy."  But then Marquis Lee came along and now HE is OUR GUY (along with R. Woods, of course), and we really don't see you getting better than either of those two."

Even if they leave early for the NFL?

Folks, Carlisle transferred to ND because his dad in now working @ Purdue and his family will be commuter distance away. They have moved from Palo Alto to Indiana, so let go of the mystery theatre / conspiracy theory on that one.

OK, public concession: today's LA Times says Farmer has been moved back to WR - WIM, you da man; public duel with SuperSoakers on the soccer field officially cancelled.

Via local reports in San Diego, QB Ryan Katz, who lost his starting job up in Card in OR-vallis is transferring to San Diego State for a chance to start for one final year. The QB coach here happens to be one Brian Kelly, who knows his business. Buzz has it that WR Brice Butler and blithe spirit RB Dillon Baxter ( a SD guy) are also transferring IN HOPES OF PLAYING TIME @ A BCS (SOON TO BE) CONFERENCE SCHOOL. Those of you who are presuming some evil intent by U.SC in squeezing people out appear to be blowing smoke in several cases. There are plenty of legitimate reasons for hating U$C and your frippery only dilutes those just declarations, so give it a frickin' rest. My 2 cents.

I don't know if thinking that Kiffin and the USC coaches might be telling Kyle Prater and others that they have little to know chance of playing at SC counts as a conspiracy theory.  I think that is kind of business as usual at a lot of the big football factories.  I know people have long thought that Nick Saban does similar stuff at Alabama, for example.  Here's an article from the WSJ discussing how Saban has cleared his roster in the past.

And it would make sense that USC, with its more limited scholarship allotment due to the NCAA penalties would do the same.  The Carlisle and Armstead situations are different, as is the Dillon Baxter situation.  I've never understood exactly what happened with Baxter, but it is clear from listening to the Trojan's broadcasters that he just never took to any team discipline at all.  His failure to develop is one of the big reasons they seem to have little depth at RB right now.

Baxter was a party animal and may have not made grades. His family had him concentrating on school. But this guy is an effing idiot if he thinks Kiffin isn't swaying guys to leave. EVERY USC message board is admitting this and yes the SEC is much worse and actually kicks out the fringe players. Kiffin isn't kicking guys out directly and no one has said that.

According to the LA Times, U.SC will need to cut more scholarship players before the season begins next fall.  Their scholarship limit is 75.  The LA Times projects them to be at 82 assuming that U.SC signs 15 recruits this year.

Quote:The departures and additions leave the T.rojans with 67 scholarship players, though that number could change pending Armstead's situation and other possible departures or additions. If the T.rojans sign 15 players next month, Kiffin and his staff will have more shuffling to do before training camp opens in August.
