Re: Class of 2013 - socalstanfan1 - 08-13-2012

Totally agree with you, WIM, on Drukarev.  His coverage actually makes me consider paying for more reports on Stanford.  The only reason I don't is because doing so would drive my recruiting obsession to dangerous levels.  But Drakarev's constant stream of reports is really first-rate.

Re: Class of 2013 - washingtonismoney - 08-25-2012

Drukarev passes on the report from ESPN that we are (apparently) at the top of Devon Allen's list: https://twitter.com/StanfordRivals/status/239563243369140224

I'd say Allen is at or near the top of the list of in-play recruits I really want (the other is Johnny Johnson). The reason why is simple: track star and wide receiver.

Re: Class of 2013 - Hank 91 - 08-26-2012

WIM, I'm wishing you hadn't mentioned Devon Allen, because now I'm going to think of nothing else until he signs. Here's a quick link about his impressive track exploits. He appears to be quite the overachiever:
http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/track-and-xc/post/_/id/2835/devon-allen-shines-brightest-at-arcadia

Also, here's a look at his equally impressive offer list, in addition to Stanford:
Arkansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Indiana Parochial College, Ohio State, Oklahoma, UCLA, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and twelve others.

The school to worry about is Ohio State, where his father played baseball.

He's also being recruited (but not yet offered) by our old friend Scott Frost at Oregon, another logical destination for a football/track star. Fingers crossed.

Re: Class of 2013 - Hank 91 - 08-26-2012

According to the Ohio State website ElevenWarriors.com, Stanford does sit atop his list:

ORDER: #Stanford #Texas #Arkansas #OhioState #UCLA #NotreDame

Re: Class of 2013 - stan01 - 08-26-2012

The latest on WR Taijuan Thomas, who still hasn't decided between Stanford and Northwestern.  Anyone with a Scout account care to update us?  http://stanford.scout.com/a.z?s=18&p=2&c=1215037&ssf=1&RequestedURL=http%3a%2f%2fstanford.scout.com%2f2%2f1215037.html

Also, any news on anyone other than Sean Barton being admitted in the past week?

Re: Class of 2013 - OutsiderFan - 08-29-2012

No Scout account, but a recent Rivals story quoted TT as being down to Stanford and Northwestern.  My guess is if he is admitted he chooses Stanford, but it may depend on what Devon Allen and Jordan Cunningham do too.

Quotes from class of 2013 commits Peter Kalambayi, Doug Randolph and Eric Cotton:  http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2012-08-29/college-football-recruiting-2013-stanford-cardinal-class-small-pac-12?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Re: Class of 2013 - StannyBoy - 08-29-2012

Sean Barton was the first person in this class to be admitted.

Re: Class of 2013 - washingtonismoney - 09-14-2012

Sounds like everything's going according to plan with Francis Owusu: http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_21541050/high-school-football-practice-makes-perfect-oaks-christians

Re: Class of 2013 - Hank 91 - 09-15-2012

Here's another short piece on Owusu:
http://www.rantsports.com/ncaa-football/2012/09/12/college-football-recruiting-stanford-cardinal-tapping-a-legacy/

The money shot:
Quote:The four-star wide receiver prospect has been playing all over the field during his senior season at Oaks Christian. This last weekend, Owusu lined up at running back, wide receiver, safety and punter. He finished the night with 11 catches for 168 yards and three touchdowns on offense while adding a 95-yard pick-six interception for a fourth trip to the endzone.

Re: Class of 2013 - washingtonismoney - 09-30-2012

According to Andy Drukarev, Greg Taboada was offered. (Presumably as a TE, but also could play OLB.) Taboada's a pretty good prospect--a four-star according to ESPN; medium- to high-three-star according to everyone else. But it's his offer list that distinguishes--offers from Alabama, Florida State, Oregon, South Carolina, among others.

Previous comments from Taboada indicate we'd be in a very strong position.

Re: Class of 2013 - Hank 91 - 10-01-2012

We're all due for some good news. Here's something about Ryan Burns's development:

Quote:Most high school seasons are crossing into the second half now. Who has impressed you the most?

Mike Farrell, National: I'd say I was most impressed with Jonathan Allen when I saw him in person, but I will say his teammate and another national top 50 player, Ryan Burns, also impressed. I think Burns has the best release and mechanics I have seen on any quarterback this season, he is big and can move and he has the look of a guy who could be playing on Sundays down the road. It will be a very tough transition from running a wing offense in high school to a pro-style offense at Stanford, but in a few years we could be talking about him as a first rounder if all works out.

Here's the (free) link from Rivals:

Re: Class of 2013 - StannyBoy - 10-01-2012

Shaw also offered CB Xavier Woods from Louisiana last weekend. Kid has a 3.7 and a 26 ACT so should be a lock considering we're his only BCS offer.

Re: Class of 2013 - StannyBoy - 10-04-2012

Per twitter, an offer has been made to LB/FB Kevin Palma. I've been hoping they would offer him for months.

Re: Class of 2013 - OutsiderFan - 10-04-2012

Just saw a story saying Stanford leads for Jabrill Peppers on FoxSportsNext, but Rivals doesn't even show Stanford as a school of interest for him.

Old, but this postgame show has some very impressive throws on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1yQE6qIkYmY

Re: Class of 2013 - stan01 - 10-10-2012

Isaac Savaiinaea will take a Notre Dame official for the Stanford game.  The polite fellow will reportedly cheer for the hosts:
http://www.southbendtribune.com/sports/notredame/recruiting/sbt-stanford-commit-will-cheer-for-notre-dame-20121010,0,3923688.story

Re: Class of 2013 - stan01 - 10-14-2012

Follow up on Savaiinaea, the LB all recruiting services consider a soft Stanford commit.  He wore an ND shirt, spray painted his mohawk green, and hung out with USC commit CB Chris Hawkins (remember him?  he was about to commit to Stanford when USC, the team he grew up cheering for, finally offered).  It doesn't look like Hawkins even applied to Stanford as we are not on his list of official visits.  Still hoping Savaiinaea, who went to Luke Kaumatule's and Man'ti Teo's high school, gets in and comes to Stanford.

Re: Class of 2013 - StannyBoy - 10-14-2012

From what I've read on Scout and Rivals is he's coming to Stanford if he gets in.
