Long-term, you're probably right. But we've seen UCLA and 59ers have pretty crummy classes when it became obvious that Neuheisel/Tedford was teetering on the edge of immolation. If the sense of chaos persists down in LA, it might open up an opportunity for a class or two. Which would be nice.

Of course. But that makes the meltdown all the more important. If Kiffin had kept together the 17-18 player class he was supposed to, well, that's 5-6 more blue chippers for the next guy to exploit.

The formula that seems to work in LALAland is to hire a mediocre washed up NFL coach.  And now Pete Carroll's success in the NFL just makes this seem all the more viable a way station.  $C's money and LA's glamour could attract some dangerous names: Rex Ryan and Jason Garrett come to mind.  Here's another scary thought: Chip Kelly when he washes out.
