Not a thing of beauty but we gutted it out against a good team.

Great to hear this. Again, I'm just watching the play-by-play on the internet, so it is hard for me to understand the nuances of how the game is unfolding. To overcome 4 turnovers and a 7 penalties to beat a very, very good team, leaves a kind of strange taste in the mouth: extremely happy about the win, of course, but realizing how much easier the win could have been if we had not shot ourselves in the foot so often.Â
But the big positive obviously is Hogan. No need to question the quality of the defense he faced today, and he put up great numbers:
7/12 (almost 60%) on 3rd Down Conversions
21/28 (75%) completions/attempts
4 ypc on the ground
But more than the numbers, again just judging from following on the net but not seeing the actual action, he just seems poised. Your team takes a penalty in the red zone? Come back and throw a TD pass. You throw an interception? No problem, you keep running the offense. Only thing that it seems Stanford could do is use the WRs a bit more: only one reception by JRP (though I understand the 2nd interception was directed to him) and 3 to Terrell. But great use of the FB, RB, and TE. As Hogan practices more with the first team, I wonder if the receivers begin to come into play a bit more. Great job the the D, also, at the end.Â

Simply put, Hogan had an amazing game all things considered. Even the 2nd pick didn't hurt that much. We would have had to punt it on 4th down anyway and they intercepted it about 30-35 yards downfield.
Completion percentage above 70% 2 games in a row. It shows Nunes' lack of accuracy
was was mostly on him and not the receivers.
I know we had 4 turnovers and we would never beat Oregon with that. But we overcame a 3 turnover differential to beat a very stout OSU team.

Hogan did amazing. This guy has very good short/medium throw accuracy and scrambling ability and he's just a freshman.
Jury is still out on the deep pass, but if we are completing 65% or more of our passes and averaging enough YPC, with the addition of the scrambling game and our QB will be looked at as an asset. And so far Hogan has been a big boost to our team in all assets of the game. This is what we were missing all season long.
Those errors made today don't happen often. Subtract those from today and what do you get? A comfortable victory.
