He's working through some issues.

Re: UCLA Game Thread - estephan500 - 11-24-2012

If anyone has any links to any more Oregon Tears at having lost the Pac-12 North, let me know :)

;D

They just flashed the graphic on TV: coverage begins at 4:30 PT so I'm guessing kick-off is at 5.

OOPS! Yes, game is on Friday.

Re: UCLA Game Thread - JeffInCorvallis - 11-24-2012

Yeah, baby!  North division champions!

Re: UCLA Game Thread - Cardinal96 - 11-24-2012

What an amazing season so far.  I came in to the season hoping for 8-4 and a holiday bowl.

Re: UCLA Game Thread - Leftcoast - 11-24-2012

So .... What does UCLA build upon to try for a different result on Friday?

Re: UCLA Game Thread - washingtonismoney - 11-24-2012

Both teams clearly held things back. Fascinating to see what happens next week. Biggest area to improve: offensive line.

Re: UCLA Game Thread - akCard - 11-24-2012

Stanford needs to start out fast. The run blocking in the first quarter was not very good and the entire offense looked really disjointed.

The defense? Dial up the intensity to 11.

Re: UCLA Game Thread - estephan500 - 11-24-2012

After all of our debate about whether UCLA was unmotivated, semi motivated, in their strange circumstances.  Looks like, in that situation, they don't "roll over" or "phone it in" ... Instead, they play sloppy and commit 3,500 penalties.

So stoked for the championship game. Want to hear that third down bell...

Re: UCLA Game Thread - socalstanfan1 - 11-24-2012

Not to sound over-confident, but I think we should be able to handle UCLA next week.  We get them at home, motivation certainly wont be an issue.  Maybe both teams held stuff back for next week, that's true.  But, our defense pretty much plays straight-up, hard-nosed defense.  It's not a gimmick scheme that can be "figured out" and beaten.  We seem to have strong players now at pretty much every position, and on most positions we go two-deep with quality players, thanks in part to the team scheming to beat Oregon by playing two full sets of defensive players.  Is it possible that we have not only the best defense in the Pac-12, but the best TWO defenses in the Pac-12, in our first and second teams?  I assume we get Terrence Stephens back next week.  The one thing that makes me nervous is the injury situation especially on special teams with both Zychlinski and D. Terrell missing.  Fumbles, muffs, etc could come up and bite us.  But at least the backups will have a full week to prepare in case those two are missing.

If a bunch of fluke plays don't go against us, and barring unforseen injuries and the like, I think we win this game the same way we have since Hogan has taken over as QB: intense D, solid run game, and enough big plays by the QB (including things like converting 3rd downs to keep drives going, not just 40-yard bombs) to control the game.

We seemed to have some trouble covering their 6'-6" TE.  How would you defend him?

Hound that TE's QB within an inch of his sanity :)

Or, figure out the kind of routes that UCLA uses for Fauria (and situational context)--make sure your defensive players know exactly how Fauria will be used and cover those routes appropriately.  Can't do much about the jump balls, but if Hundley gets picked off a couple of times looking for Fauria, I would guess UCLA stops throwing so often to him.

The jump balls to Fauria seemed to be one of the weapons that Mora put back in his pocket after the first series or so (where they worked extremely well). I don't remember those being used much (if at all) the rest of the game. I'm sure we'll see a lot more of those on Friday.

Re: UCLA Game Thread - fullmetal - 11-26-2012

Let's just say we have adequate Fauria doppelgangers for our defense to work with.  Two, if not three, of them in fact.  (Wish that third would hurry up and develop so that we can bust out with some three TE sets in the bowl game...it's not like we're growing receivers any faster! :p)
