My family has had men's basketball seasons tickets for ~ 60 years [i.e., since before I was born]. The Bowlsby seat license plan took us from 6 to 2 [and moved us to much more marginal seats]. Last year, that declined to 1. Next year? Boy, I just don't know...
Paying close to $100 per game this season was really hard to take [given that the whole fan experience other than the game really isn't much -- stale, overpriced, and limited selection food; having to listen to that annoyingly loud, screeching, and wholly unintelligible video intro every game; and with seats that were essentially restricted view whenever the team stood up], especially when our repeated late-game meltdowns made most of the wins less than satisfying and the losses functional equivalents of getting kicked in the stomach.
I am absolutely certain I could attend every home game next season [even if we do really well], and virtually certain that I could sit in the lower bowl, for less than 50% of the price of a season ticket renewal, unless Muir decides to reward those who stick with the program with a steep discount or other valuable benefit of some sort.
In fact the only thing that might make next season anywhere near a tough ticket is the "train wreck" scenario -- i.e., people will sometimes pay to see a disaster happen before their eyes [think NASCAR]. Of course, were that to occur, it could produce the ugliest sports environment at Stanford in a long time, as "booing the home team" might very well develop. Otherwise put, it could begin to sound like Memorial Stadium...
It's even possible things could get ugly much sooner than that. Given our record, it seems likely that we'll get at least a CBI invite, if not an NIT bid. Do we accept it? If so, do we seek a home game...which is likely to draw, oh, say, 13 or 14 people? And, if we lose early [and ugly] what does Muir say?
After the Football season and women's volleyball season, the Athletic Dept sent out an e-mail survey to season ticket holders soliciting input on the "fan experience" this past season. I'll be very interested to see whether they do that for men's b'ball.

One additional problem with Dawkins being allowed to twist in the wind for another year -- it seems to me, watching the Pac-12, that it's finally starting to pull itself out of the cave it lived in for the past few years. (which really underscores how bad Dawkins has been -- he can't do better than mediocrity in the worst Pac-12 in years.) But that means that coaches like Sean Miller, Tad Boyle, and Dana Altman will be allowed to further establish themselves (and reap the benefits of positive stability), while Stanford either wallows in mediocrity, or goes through a transition period.

Regarding your men's basketball in-game experience, there are people whose job it is to survey and report on fans' satisfaction. I know because I've been part of more than one men's basketball survey, one of which included attending a game for free and reporting back. Start with you ticket rep to fi d out who is in charge of this.

Nick Robinson should get the head coaching job just so we can watch this replayed on television during Stanford games.
2nd best part of the video. Tiger leaving the guy hanging after Childress sinks that 3. Any idea who that is? Must be a big booster given his seat.

The MBB survey went out earlier this week. They were way too concerned about the poor food and stupid half time stuff. Got to say make a change number outs times. Â

Yvonne gave GoodGrief the wrong assignment. We needed a grass roots campaign to get Dawkins fired.

Thanks for the memories. SFGate still has some pictures up from the Dec. 2000 Duke game:

My favorite picture is the fourth one showing Casey Jaconsen running back for defense after hitting the game winner as Tiger Woods and Jerry Yang go nuts courtside.

Quote:Dawkins will be back, Athletic Director Bernard Muir said Friday, although Muir made it clear he expects Stanford to contend for the Pac-12 title next season. Asked about Muir's published comments, Dawkins said he hasn't read them and added that Muir did not give him any kind of ultimatum.

Quote:Dawkins agreed and said the NIT could help give his veteran team some momentum going into next year.
And you guys were worried about Dawkins. He's clearly making the most of the situation -- good on you coach! Playing in the NIT could give us some momentum. Imagine if we're able to win it? We'd practically be a lock for the NIT again in 2014!

Mystery solved!!Â
Since I hadn't seen any survey, I assumed I wasn't on the "privileged" list for men's b'ball. However, I just dutifully went through my Postini Spam Quarantine Summary at work for last week and there, among the 187 messages for Nigerian uncle $$$, strange FedEx delivery notifications and solicitations for various bizarre products, was... my men's b'ball survey! I'm not exactly sure why it came to my work e-mail, but, whatever...
I plan to fill it out tonight...AFTER the NIT game. ;D

Glad to hear it. I always enjoy my interactions with Stanford Athletics. They're really high touch, to use a marketing buzzword.

The Horny Toads' season ended last week in the first round of the Big 12 tournament with a loss to Texas. Trent's first year at TCU was less than impressive
11-12 11-21 overall, 2-16 in the conference.

Just waiting for Trent to pick a player to throw under the bus. The Big 12 hasn't impressed many people in men's basketball this year either.

Beating Kansas and Oklahoma has to count for something, right?
His roster was probably ludicrously outgunned by the rest of the Big XII in the talent department.
