As Tigger would say, STUPENDEROUS!!

(sorry, my literary choices are heavily influenced by my 2-year-old these days.)

Hope the team can get their legs back together to make deep runs in the individual and doubles brackets!
After such a tough week I have to believe more rested players will tear the Stanford players up.

Any insights you can share?

It seems like an inherent disadvantage for the singles and doubles teams from the schools that play in the semi-finals and finals. Hopefully Stanford's training staff has a lot of experience in dealing with just that issue and has a strategy in place to help our ladies be successful.

I wonder if the extra tiny bit of motivation, know that "the streak" was on their shoulders, helped push the players over the edge. There has to be an additional source of pride for them knowing that they saved that streak and also perhaps clinched the D-cup.

I missed watching this one live, but I highly enjoyed reading the commentary this morning.

Great job by the amazing Stanford athletes. Man, it's fun to be a fan.

So I got to see probably the top two women's sports moments of the season -- beating Baylor in b'ball and winning the tennis championship -- LIVE in a grainy little picture on my computer monitor...  Ain't technology wonderful!  ;D

Am writing up my mental notes and will post on a separate thread soon.  Here's a teaser - Tara did provide a direct answer to a question about Toni Kokenis.

The video here is better quality thank the livestream, and it's got audio!  I was getting no audio during the actual event.  Amazing!

Huh, I had audio. I went to the main stream, not an individual court.

Seriously? Wow. I don't feel that way. I love the fact that the NCAA title streak continues. But the streak has nothing to do with the Rose Bowl. For me, if the streak ended, it wouldn't take anything away from the Rose Bowl . . .

Sad to report that our heroine, Kristie Ahn, got knocked out of the singles tournament in the first round.  I wonder if she left it ALL on the court to win that last team match. Gibbs and Hardebeck did advance.

I watched the team final with my wife (who played D3 tennis).  Terrific to get color commentary for a sport where I only know the basics.  She only had to watch a couple games of Ahn to assure me that the championship was in the bag.  Her assessment was that Ahn is MUCH more skilled player than her opponent or Herdebeck.  Much wider repertoire and better decision-making.  Hope Ahn and Gibbs go far in the doubles bracket.

Fullmetal makes an interesting point.  I wonder how much effort players, in general, put during the team portion, to save themselves for singles and doubles.  If that happens, then kudos to the Women's Tennis team for giving their all for the team and the school.

Re: Women's Tennis Finals Versus Texas A&M - fullmetal - 05-23-2013

Ahn might have been subconsciously saving herself for the doubles bracket, which is being concurrently run with the singles bracket.  Both brackets end with championships on the 27th.
