The team I'm watching right now doesn't deserve a sniff at a NCG.

How we manage to put together the game we did last week, then play like this, is absolutely baffling.

One difference is the performance of the opposing QB. Another is the boost that you get from managing the underdog energy.

Guys, we're not playing that badly, USC is playing great, particularly on offense.

Re: Stanford - Under Stanford Control Thread - estephan500 - 11-16-2013

I was happy to see that branching out in our offensive play calling for a bit there. But SC managed to keep focused on Gaffney when it came back round to him.

Ok, hats off to ukoprina. Unsure of spelling.

Christ he needs to learn how to catch.

We're down 7 at half, it's not the worst thing ever, but it's bad. Especially when we got 5 possessions in the half.

More of a Hogan problem on that play.

The big offensive problem, such as it is, is the offensive line. Getting beat, for the third straight road game.

Re: Stanford - University of Second Choice Thread - Bruce Wang - 11-16-2013

We are lucky to be only down 7 given how we are getting outplayed.  Based on the last drive, looks like Mason made the right adjustments.  Even that last offensive drive was good.

Re: Stanford - Under Stanford Control Thread - estephan500 - 11-16-2013

I won't be the only one to observe that it feels far worse than just a 7 point deficit. Fortunate, in that respect.

Shaw comments as he runs off the field:

"They are outplaying us right now."

Stanford need to simply "relax and play football."

Agreed.

Our offense, especially Hogan and Gaffney, are playing well. USC's D-line is loaded, and of course is going to make things difficult. My only complaint would be Ty's drops.

On defense I think we could've played with more focus, but, for the most part, it is U.S.C. making great plays.

7 points down at the half, not too bad. Hoping for 2nd half clamp-down by the D.

It also seems like they're making all the questionable plays. Those balls where half the time the receiver drops it? They're catching all of those. We're not, and that's the difference (how different does this game look if Montgomery doesn't drop that deep ball on our first drive?).

Re: Stanford - University of Spoiled Children Thread - Kathy - 11-16-2013

I want to see a pick-6 on $C's opening drive in the second half.

Good point.  We knew that if TyM had a good game, we would win.  My question is where is Cajuste?  I thought he was healthy.

With Jonathan Martin on the sidelines, if Kiffin was our coach, he'd probably sneak him into an uniform during half time.

All right, two stops in a row. Let's keep it going!

Re: Stanford - University of Spoiled Children Thread - stupac2 - 11-16-2013

God I love Gaffney.

Cajuste is in the game now. A holding call and then redemption.

And another Gaffney TD!

Re: Stanford - University of Spoiled Children Thread - dabigv13 - 11-16-2013

Gaffney. Boss.

Re: Stanford - University of Spoiled Children Thread - 82 Card - 11-16-2013

Nice mix on that drive. Good to see Cajuste come out of hiding and Gafney being himself. Gafney's run was made possible by some pretty good line work.

Re: Stanford - University of Spoiled Children Thread - Gauss - 11-16-2013

Wow, Hogan is pinpoint today, great job passing. Gaffney is also in beast mode, and the play calling has been solid.

Now, if the D is able to keep the pressure up as in the last two drives, this game bodes well.

Re: Stanford - University of Spoiled Children Thread - Bruce Wang - 11-16-2013

And the streak continues.
