For Hansen? Probably not. Hansen's a linebackers coach and the chatter is that Harbaugh will retain the current Michigan DC -- Greg Mattison -- as his linebackers coach. Looking like DJ Durkin at DC, supposedly, so probably no Lance. And I somehow doubt he'll be going after our offensive coaches, though I suppose one never knows.

I wonder if he will raid Tim Drevno from USC. What were the circumstances of his departure from the 49ers?

Don't buy it. I would imagine any additions would be on the offensive side unless someone on the defensive side departs.

That would be weird. There are maybe 4 teams in the NFL with DCs who aren't obviously better than Rex, leaving a ton where he'd be an upgrade (subtract a few for personality or system differences). It seems likely he'd have his pick of NFL DC jobs, maybe even a shot at one of the HC ones. What would we have to offer? We'd pay him less and it'd be a brobdingnagian step down in prestige. Plus we already have a DC who did a pretty darn good job this year, and who we probably don't want to alienate by bringing in an outside guy. It just doesn't make sense for Shaw to want Ryan OR to think Ryan would take the job.
Re: Harbaugh in demand -

All the rumors I've seen about Ryan is which head coaching job he would take next (Atlanta is mentioned prominently). He doesn't just have his pick of DC jobs, with Harbaugh headed to Michigan (in all likelihood), Ryan has his pick of NFL head coaching gigs. Zero chance he comes to Stanford as DC, which, as others have mentioned, is not a vacancy we have.

I wondered that too. Maybe he said something that caused the rumors. Could have been something innocent that was misinterpreted. I am just guessing here.

That's all wrong, Lombardi - Redrum - 12-30-2014
He
might take some Stanford staff. When you say he "may", that implies permission.
Sorry. Game day. Gotta start hitting things to get psyched up. Lombardi's as good as any.

I'm really sad about one thing with this Harbaugh return...
We won't get to see him kick N.D.' s ass comprehensively for like fifty straight years.

Would love the whole story of what happened between Baldwin and Harbaugh.
In other news - at the press conference yesterday, he used the analogy of building houses to express the hope (I think, if my analogy interpreter is on) that he hopes the Michigan job is where he stays permanently. Anyone here convinced that's what will happen?

I'm convinced that when Harbaugh said it, that's what he truly believed. But Harbaugh is a man of many whims and could change his mind later.

This is the worst of reporters, "I've heard some who think he may". That's not reporting; it is repeating speculation. Gee, how hard is that? It would be one thing if he said sources told him that Harbaugh was going after Stanford coaches. It'd be another thing if he was speculating, and at least took responsibility for the speculation, right or wrong. But no, he repeats idle speculation.
To his credit, he appears to have been the first person to report directly from the source that Carter was going to the NFL. That is reporting.

He's an ESPN reporter now...he's required by contract to send all whispers of rumors into the 24/7 news cycle echo chamber to hype predictions and perhaps cause the tail to wag the dog...

I vehemently disagree. While ESPN has its share of rumor traffickers, most of the guys doing the Pac-12 and Stanford blogs (Kevin Gemmell and Ted Miller), and even some of the new guys (like Kyle Bonagura) are fairly reasonable and stick to the facts rather than the old "I've heard that so and so might do xyz".

I'll add my sarcasm tag next time. Clearly ESPN does not contractually require its journalists to exaggerate.

Yes, he said, "Go Buckeyes," but it's worth reading his entire statement, a much more rounded and even introspective response:

When exactly did Jamie Morris and Michigan make up with Harbaugh? I found plenty of articles from 2007 where he said Harbaugh was no longer a Michigan man and no longer welcomed. Fast forward to now and they are buddy buddy. I couldn't find any article anywhere about reconciliation.
