At 2-0 in their bracket, UCLA guaranteed at least 17th place worth 50 points. This is their 10th scoring sport on the Women's side and the first where they have outscored the corresponding Stanford Women's team.
UCLA now at 1,102.25 and 266.25 behind the Cardinal.

Men can still score points in: Golf (minimum of 45 points for being in the final 30); Outdoor T+F (ranked 23 - would score roughly 48 points.)Â If Outdoor T+F finishes in the top 34, they'll supplant wrestling (roughly, depending on ties and multiple-way ties and other oddities prevalent in a world of team T+F scoring; last year, for example, a three-way tie for 33 scored each team 40 points, while 36th scored 37.5).
So minimum men's score at present: 614.5. (adding the 45 for men's golf).

Lacrosse was eliminated when tennis was scored.
Women can still score points in: Golf (minimum of 50 points for being in the final 24); Rowing (ranked 6 - would score 72 points); Outdoor T+F (ranked 13 - would score roughly 63 points.)
To add to the women's total: Golf would have to finish in the top 14 (last year, 14th scored 61.5 points). Rowing would have to finish in the top 9 (last year, 10th scored 60 points, 9th 63). Outdoor T+F in the top 14 as well.
Women's minimum score: 755.
TOTAL MINIMUM SCORE: 1369.5
Women's golf championship starts on Friday. Rowing and track regionals the following weekend.

UCLA women's rowing looked pretty outclassed today at the Pac-12 championships, but the Pac-12 is the deepest women's rowing conference anywhere. They just might get an at-large bid to the NCAA championship.Â
Stanford finished fourth overall in team standings--it looked to be a rough regatta for them as a team, but the varsity eight earned a silver medal.

UCLA women's tennis in the NC match today vs. Vanderbilt (which shut out #1 USC in the semis).

Since Stanford men's golf advanced Stanford's floor is getting much more secure. The UCLA men's loss to Oklahoma was also helpful. UCLA now needs to virtually run the table with multiple NCAA team titles. And if they did that they deserve the cup. Alternatively Stanford could fail to get a few results in men's track & field. That's probably more plausible since finishing in the top 20 in Track & Field often comes down to just one or two people posting solid results.
For Stanford fans the UCLA watch returns to the total NCAA team title tally. Not sure I like the idea of Vandy and the SEC winning the thing, but....

Men's golf has a good shot at the final eight. They're playing well. And we have the best first man (Maverick) and fifth (Swegle)
in the event, plus Huang playing great at number four. And our number three (Boote) finished third in the event last year.
And Virat, on his one very good day in three, can play with anyone. On the other two rounds, he ends up losing big, but losing 5-4 is the same as losing on the 20th hole.Â
Should be a terrific event. No clear favorite. FSU has been wicked at 1-2-3 but not playing their best lately. Illinois is similar but hasn't faced good competition yet. Texas is hot, Oklahoma--not Oklahoma State--went bat shit crazy last weekend.Â
Re: Directors Cupdate -

UCLA women's rowing was not selected for the NCAA championships.
Re: Directors Cupdate -
Farm93 - 05-19-2015
They were unlikely to add much to UCLA's tally anyway. It really comes down to Men's Golf and Men's T&F for both schools. Really unlikely that UCLA will outperform Stanford by the margins needed.
In the end, they need to almost run the table. If UCLA becomes CWS Baseball champs, WCWS softball champs, Men's golf champs, Women's golf champs and women's tennis champs then they MIGHT win the NACDA Directors' cup by 10-20 points if the UCLA men's track & field post an impressive top 25 result too. And if they do all of that in the next 4 weeks then they deserve the cup.
The UCLA men's tennis team losing in the Round of 16 and Stanford golf's advancement to the final really was just about enough.Â

I wonder if UC.LA or other schools obsess about this as much as we do. Does anyone know?
Re: Directors Cupdate -
Viking_Guy - 05-19-2015
Just to clarify: UCLA women's rowing not selected means they won't score any points in rowing, or eliminate one of their lower scoring sports. Stanford scores a minimum of 30 points for being selected, but again, won't affect the scoring unless they knock out field hockey by placing 9th or better.
Now keeping an eye on the women's tennis final.
And Ferrari, I don't think they can obsess over what they haven't had in the last 20 years :). I do know that the Florida folks were following it fairly closely when they had a chance to dethrone Stanford two years ago.

It seems there are any number of examples of other schools trumpeting their top-x finish in the Director's Cup. I'd be surprised if UCLA hadn't done it somewhere along the way.

A few schools have bonuses for their ADs if the school finishes in the top 10, top 5, etc. I don't think I have seen a school mention the bonus for winning the NACDA Directors' Cup, but I suspect some ADs might have bonuses linked to a cup win.

Maybe, but it seems to me that if they're smart, they would tie their bonuses to a top 3 or top 5 finish, rather than an outright win, because it's so very difficult to beat Stanford.

From one of the above links:

"In the 19-year history of the Directors Cup, UCLA has finished in the top six of the final standings 17 times. Only one other school, Stanford, has matched this feat."
Bit of an understatement here?

That's hilarious, BigEasy. Lies, damn lies, and statistics...
Reminds me of Amos Alonzo Stagg being interviewed on his 100th birthday, predicting that he'd live forever. "Statistically, very few people die after the age of 100."
