Re: Cutty Sark! - Spiny_Norman - 08-23-2015

What a pity that the Stanford Band is being punished and will not be performing at the Coliseum on Sept 19.  They could do a tribute to the "fruit of the vine" and the joy it brings.  And since Yom Kippur is a few days after the game, all of the Jews could then atone for what they did.

Or they could do a breathalyzer version of the Cade McNown halftime show they did for a UCLA home game (just showed the disabled parking symbol facing alternating sides of the field).

This is serious karma coming back to bite Pat Haden in the rump for not making Oregeron the permanent HC.

Obviously, the person rigging up the bill was no fan of Sark. Charging $9 a shot for Patron Silver is criminal.

Prince-
I have seen at high as $12 a shot in Tucson. The cheapest I have seen around here is 7$.

I'm more wondering why it hasn't been banned from the coaches' offices  ??? :P

Rehab?  Let's not get carried away.  You've never in your life been drunker than perhaps you should have been?

Disagree. He is going to have to go to rehab because recruits (and their parents) will be told by other schools that he is an alcoholic. The biggest issue is the timing since USC would probably prefer that he do that during the off-season.

My first reaction was similar to Passion's...one incident, by itself, does not warrant rehab.  But if more and more incidents come to light, and this news about alcohol being in the locker room after games is not a great sign for VSC, then maybe something more is in order.  Maybe not rehab, but a gamer or two suspension.  They suspended the basketball coach a while back for an incident that seems less egregious than this.

Side Note: can you imagine the angst for Sarkisian when VSC loses to Stanford.  Imagine him sitting in the locker room, bottle of booze in hand. *hic* "They all SUCK! Especially the nerdy, brainiac, choir boys with the teetotaling head coach! How can we lose to them?!" *hic*

I was surprised by that, too.  Apparently Kiffin allowed alcohol, Orgeron didn't, and then Sark brought it back when he became coach.  Reports suggest that Sark encouraged a team culture of drinking.  See http://www.dailynews.com/sports/20150823/usc-coach-steve-sarkisian-apologizes-for-behavior-at-football-dinner

I've been drunker than I should have been many times.  Very few of those times were after I turned 25.  And none of them involved being inappropriately drunk at a work-related event.

To put this in context, I have tenure, but I would still be seriously worried about what consequences I'd face if I were inappropriately drunk in a way that publicly embarrassed my school in front of major donors.

Press coverage seemed to imply that this wasn't the first time Snarkisian was more than a wee bit tipsy at a booster event.  That's all the indication I need that he needs to be in rehab.  But I don't see U$C mandating it until after the season's over, because football.

Re: Cutty Sark! - Stymie - 08-25-2015

Let's not  be so holy as to demanding rehab.  After all, Churchill helped win WWII whilst having Pol Roger at breakfast, Courvoisier before bed, and only god knows whatever in between.  That being said, a Sark in rehab would be of more vaue to us than a Cutty Sark on the sidelines.  He's not chopped liver as a coach.....

Re: Cutty Sark! - CornFed - 08-25-2015

Rehab, as it is being suggested in this thread, will have at best only a PR purpose.  While that may be the point and would potentially have value to the school, it will do nothing to address Snark's issues.  Unless he is receptive to the purpose of a stint in rehab, the experience will almost certainly have no effect on his lack of control with alcohol.

I am not privy to the details of the coach's history.  It is tragic, however, when an individual succumbs to an addiction and destroys their own lives and the lives of those they love.  Perhaps as Passion speculated this is an outlier and we are getting to breathlessly overwrought.  Those close to the coach, if not Sarkisian himself, would be foolish to whistle through the graveyard if this is not an isolated incident.
