W’s dodge a bullet after some brain cramps down the stretch. Didn’t get any home cooking help from the refs, either.

Just watched the Draymond show and really appreciated his reasoning. This is the type of little stuff, the team dynamics stuff that leads to championships. Nobody is above the team and decisions are made about winning and nothing else. Part of that was to keep Looney feeling good and confident after his epic Game 3. Mission accomplished as he had no real regression in Game 4. Also liked how Dray took responsibility for the blown timeouts and end of game mistakes. Steph has to really appreciate that.
Kuminga. He was immediately yanked off the floor and never played another minute after he ball watched from the corner a Wiggins missed shot from the other side. All he had to do was prioritize getting the ball and he gets the ball and another shot for the W’s if not an easy put back or 2 FTs. Instead he stood inert, watching the ball and allowed Fox, who never could have grabbed the ball if JK went toward the rim and put his body on Fox, and maybe even if he didn’t get body on him, to get it. I was pissed off watching this in real time, so can only imagine how pissed the team and coaches were. Just totally, completely unacceptable and worthy of a benching. Hope this is a learning moment for Kuminga and a lightbulb goes on for him. Get your body on someone after a shot goes up, and go after the ball like your life depends on it!
Knicks have a pretty pedestrian offense but man do they play defense! Cavs now in trouble after terrible game from Donovan Mitchell.
My Finals pick Celtics took some counterpunches from Hawks in a wildly entertaining game, but that’s all they could do. Boston just has too many shot makers.
The Wolves sure are great at blowing leads, but giving up a 12 point bulge with less than 2 1/2 mins left is impressive even for them. They delayed the inevitable by somehow winning in OT. Kinda surprised they put up so much fight at end to play again in Denver.

This is all kinds of wrong. The new CBA punishes teams that try to win, in ways that no other sport has ever contemplated, let alone put in place. The NBA is giving the Warriors no choice but to tear their team apart this offseason. Disgraceful.
Might explain why they aren't re-signing Bob Myers. It would be almost cruel to have Myers be forced to tear down the team he has built. It's pretty obvious he has special relationships with Steph, Klay, and Dray.

Just one terrible provision:
One new penalty that generated brobdingnagian criticism was the “jailing” for future draft picks for teams that exceed the second apron. Those teams will not be able to trade a first-round pick seven years in the future, limiting the haul available for Durant-style blockbusters. More importantly, perhaps, if those teams stay above the tax apron in more than one of the next four years, the pick gets pushed to the end of the first round in the year in question … regardless of where the team might finish.

Brook Lopez won game 2 for the Bucks and did his best to try to win game 4 as well, but came up a little short. Good showing for a Stanford alumnus. There won’t be another of his caliber in the league for a good long time, especially given the situation with NIL and exodus from the Pac12.

I'm sure if the NBA really puts their mind to it and tries hard enough they can find a way to suspend Draymond for this.

Who had the Bucks being down 3-1 to Heat? Jimmy Butler goes nuclear in Giannis return to force Bucks into winning 3 straight to advance. Making this even more improbable is Tyler Herro and Victor Oladipo have both been lost for rest of playoffs with injuries since regular season ended and Kyle Lowery has been banged up too.
Who do y’all think is most likely to come back from 3-1 to win?
I’ll go:
1. Bucks - doable
2. Cavs - possibly
3. Clippers - possibly
4. Grizzlies - doubtful
5. Wolves - no chance
6. Hawks - no chance
Interesting that W’s-Kings is only series tied 2-2.

Clips are done without their two stars.
I sure hope the Lakers win, but it doesn’t feel secure. Lakers/Warriors in Round 2 would be great for TV ratings.

Hawks 119 Celtics 117 is why sports are so compelling, but the other two Game 5 eliminations were too.
The Celtics, Nuggets and Suns were all double digit favorites. None of them covered and all the games were within 2 points with a minute left. Amazing, but only the C’s lost and they did to a team without its leading scorer.
Just when you thought the C’s looked like a mortal lock to not only win the series in Game 5, but establish themselves as the clear favorite to win the LOB trophy, they lose to a depleted Hawks team at home with chance to end series. According to TNT, they became the first Celtics team to ever lose a playoff game at home after leading by 10 or more in the 4th quarter. Not possible for me to conceive of them dropping two more to Hawks, but that result was shocking.
Got to give the Wolves and Clippers a lot of credit for battling the way they did. Crazy games both. Think I have to give Nuggets the edge over Suns.
Ona related note, Duke and Kentucky were considered the top destinations for the best hoop prospects over the last decade. Let’s see how that is going in terms of playoff/in participation…
Kentucky
Devin Booker
De’Aaron Fox
Malik Monk
Jamal Murray
Anthony Davis
Tyler Herro
Bam Adebayo
Jerome Randle
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Duke
Jayson Tatum
RJ Barrett
Mason Plumlee
Tyus Jones
Brandon Ingram
Did I miss anyone of note? Advantage Kentucky.
I’ve been wrong so many times in these playoffs, I’m not gonna even pretend to know who will win tonight’s games. I will say I think it would be smart for W’s to play Wiggins and Green on Fox and put GP2 on Monk, Murray, and Barnes. Fox isn’t bothered by his quickness, but I think those other three will be, and length seems to be needed to contain Fox. Will be interesting to see how he performs with broken finger and if W’s dare him to shoot or allow him to be a playmaker while overplaying his shot threat. Hard to imagine he’ll be able to shoot as well with that injury.

Something was off with GP2 on Sunday, he didn't have his normal energy and impact. Perhaps lingering effects from the flu, perhaps something else. Notice he WASN'T ON THE FLOOR for the climactic last Sacramento possession and instead Kerr played Curry as the primary defender (with help coming quickly from Green). It all worked out but if GP2 had been 100% that would have been his defensive assignment. Whatever was wrong, I hope he's feeling better tonight.

When the Kings were making whatever it was. 8-10 3pt FGs in the first quarter I had. feeling they were in trouble. Those shots were not going to keep dropping at that rate, and I thought the Kings would get too confident shooting them and start missing a bunch. Never did I imagine they would go 2-24 after that, tough! Shades of Game 7 at Houston a few years ago when they missed 27 straight.
WTF happened to the Bucks? HOW do you blow a 16 pt lead in 4th when facing elimination at home? HOW do you allow Jimmy Butler to beat you?
Who had Knicks-Heat in ECSF?
The Lakers might be in a spot of trouble. The travel and physicality could be taking a toll on them. LeBron looked gassed in the 4th quarter. I thought the Lakers might do what Steve Kerr did last year in Game 5 vs. Grizzlies, and just take the L to rest his guys for Game 6 at home. The Lakers only pulled their starters late in the 4th.
So, more likely to go 7, Kings-Warriors or Grizzlies-Lakers???

I think the W's really, really, really want to close it out in game VI, because a game VII is Sacramento will be hard to win. The W's knew they had to win one on the road. They did that. Giving it back would be a real body blow, and the corresponding bounce to the Kings would be hard to overcome.

Not sure your definition of "note" but other players who are playing some minutes in the playoffs/in:
Duke:
Grayson Allen
Jalen Johnson
Gary Trent Jr
Seth Curry
Luke Kennard
Austin Rivers
and obviously Zion would be if he wasn't hurt
Kentucky:
Immanuel Quickley
Jarred Vanderbilt
Trey Lyles
Tyrese Maxey
Karl-Anthony Towns

Don't know how I forgot KAT!!! Anyway, the players I listed of note - with exception of KAT oversight - are the ones who would be considered All-Star level players. I thought about Lyels, Allen, Quickly, but just didn't see them as at the level of those other guys, though Maxey has been great this year too!

I'll take whatever odds you want to give on mason plumlee ever making an all-star team ?
If we are talking all-star caliber (regardless of whether they made this year's postseason) I'd have it as:
KENTUCKY
Booker
Fox
Murray
AD
Bam
Randle
SGA
Maxey
KAT
(Speculative shaedon sharpe)
DUKE
Tatum
Ingram
Zion
Kyrie
Paolo
So I think your point stands, duke could field a pretty nice starting 5, but Kentucky could fill a whole roster of all stars.
RE: NBA Discussion -
OutsiderFan - 04-28-2023
Ya, I think it’s generally correct that though Duke has seemed to have the players with more acclaim, Kentucky’s top players, even if they maybe weren’t as renowned in college, have overall been better in the NBA than Duke’s seemingly more hyped guys.
Think it has to do with the media love fest with K that it didn’t have with Calipari.
Atlanta had a real shot to force a Game 7, The Celtics just got hot over the last few minutes while the Hawks went ice cold. The C’s look like the best team to me, but they also allowed the Hawks to stay in the series way longer than it seems they should have.
I’m going with Warriors and Grizzlies to win Game 6 Friday night. I’m wondering if Kings bench Huerter in favor of Monk who has a better net rating than Huerter. The Kings are looking like they have fewer players they can rely on than the W’s. Fox, Barnes, Murray, Sabonis, and then who? Monk or Mitchell, that’s an O/D choice.
By contrast, Warriors have more guys who can play: Curry, Thompson, Wiggins, Poole, Green, Looney, GP2, DDV can all play 10+ mins. Most of those guys are 2-way players, and even Poole has been better on D lately. I wonder if Kuminga will be given another shot tonight, or if he has played himself out of the playoffs.
Most fascinating thing about these games to me is how the 3pt shooting percentages have been eerily similar for both teams on a per game basis. The last two games were almost identical, Game 4 41% and Game 5 about 29%. The W’s are the better 3pt shooting team for the series but only by 3%. The W’s were #2 in NBA regular season, so they have a good chance to shoot better from 3 and win Game 6, IMO.
