There’s a real long shot that just surfaced.   We will know more if he doesn’t sign elsewhere next Week.    However adding another is a real long shot

So is 4 star DE Ty Robinson potentially not signing this week to wait on Stanford admissions and go to the January big visit weekend, sort of like Dax Hollifield last year?

That would certainly be a major shocker given the lack of any Stanford mention, the full court press the Nebraska staff is putting on and the strong family ties in-state - as far as the latter, hopefully none are big Nebraska WVB fans, either....

There's Zahran Manley, as someone speculated earlier. Long 6'2" CB flipped from Cal.

Re: Evan Williams, he's at least on our radar as coaches Anderson and Akina both follow him on Twitter, he camped at Stanford this past summer (earning an offer from Princeton), and he's teammates with Josh Pakola.

Williams apparently has an offer from Illinois, where his brother plays. Would he turn that down to walk on at Stanford? Possibly, but seems doubtful.

As far as Higgins is concerned you would think that if he was planning to sign with us this week he would have made an announcement. Hopefully he isn't still wavering between us and, say, Texas.

I don't know much about Higgins' recruitment, but it seems possible, maybe even likely, his parents want him to go away for school. The kid looks like a perfect replacement for JJAW.

While we can lament that Coach Shaw was unable to reel in top QB Ryan Hilinski, even though Stanford was his dream school, the linked article makes it clear that the tragedy of his brother's suicide means the family wants a fresh start in another part of the country. I am sure Coach Shaw encouraged Ryan to do the right thing for himself and the Hilinski family.

I believe another problem was that we were a little late to the party in recruiting Ryan. Not sure why.

He didn't take any AP classes senior year.

Is that a cause or effect of being late to the party?  Given that most students on their own aren't going to take two AP classes, that highlights the importance of contacting prospects before the start of their senior year.

Yeah, I'm not sure just when we contacted him, but I'm wondering if after Mills got hurt against UC Davis, we suddenly decided we needed a QB in this class and started looking around. That would make sense anyway.
Also, I'm not sure whether he came to our camps or attempted to find out what kind of academics he needed to qualify for admission, but if Stanford really was his "dream school" you would have thought he would have.

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 12-17-2018

Just took a peek at Elijah Higgins on Twitter. He posted pics of home visits with Florida and Texas, nobody else. But the head coaches did not visit him.  To me, that's telling. Usually the head coach only visits on guys he can close. Anyone know if Shaw went in home with Higgins?

FWIW, 247 Sports has not backed off at all on their prediction of Higgins to Stanford.
The last home visit that we had with Walker Little was done by an assistant coach, not Shaw, presumably because DS felt confident that Little was in the fold. IIRC, Texas brought the entire coaching staff out.

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 12-18-2018

As I posted above Higgins announces tonight at 5 our time. Yes he did Outsider

Looks like a class of 21 including our mission player.

Bob, this doesn't include P/K Ryan Sanborn - did he end up as a scholarship guy or PWO? (I'm pretty certain he'll be earning a scholly sooner rather than later if he's walking on.)

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 12-18-2018

Agree Sanborn could be a scholarship player but he isn’t today. But maybe tomorrow?

So Ty Robinson is such a long shot it's hardly worth writing a story about him as Rivals did?

Now you know why I don't pay, Bob :)

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 12-18-2018

FWIW, the Higgins Crystal Ball prediction went from 85% to 86% Stanford and from 5% to 4% Texas today.

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 12-18-2018

And now up to 87% Stanford for Higgins T-minus 1:30 to announcement.

Great!  We need a JJ like receiver on the field.  Seems like a good young man and an important addition to the class.

Cheers,
Pete F.

RE: Class of 2019 - BostonCard - 12-18-2018

He's early.

Also, 100% crystal ball?

A week ago, the class looked to be sputtering; nice to finish strong.
