Reason #200 I love this board.
A request for medical expertise is provided as well as a second opinion.

I'm pretty sure this board has more where that came from :)

Was he running as in jogging or at a full tilt sprint? Hard to imagine a 13 year old having this type of injury. ???

I didn't see it but I heard that he wasn't running full speed. The surgeon was surprised too. But, it happened. When he saw it on the x-ray, he called in the whole staff to take a look at it. My son's knee cap split into two halves and that was the only damage.

Wow! How do you repair that sort of injury? The lack of soft tissue damage was certainly a blessing but that is a lot for a 13 year old to deal with. I hope your son came through this and out the other side at full strength.

Alfieri will come through this just fine.
Unless, of course, the guy operating on him is a Duck fan.

He had to have two surgeries. In the first, they put in titanium screws to hold the knee cap together while it healed. In the second, they removed the screws. He was able to walk a week or two after the first surgery with a special splint. They didn't put him in a cast for some reason. The next year he tried out for basketball, but sucked at it. There has been no lasting physical or emotional problems.

That reminds me of the old joke:
"Doctor, will I be able to play the violin after the operation?"
"Yes, of course..."
"Great! I never could before!"

Lil' Buckeye here watched Harbaugh play in college. If Chyrst isn't the next Andrew Luck, I'll take the next Jim Harbaugh.

Texas A&M got a commitment from one of Casey Tucker's teammates, should we be worried?

No. You hear stories about players following their HS buddies, signing as a tandem with other friends, all the time in recruiting. Josh Garnett has a good friend at Michigan who all but guaranteed that Josh would end up in Ann Arbor because of their friendship, and we see how that turned out. If Tucker were to end up at A&M it should be because he, for some reason, liked the program better than all the others. If he chose their because of his friend, then he clearly isn't doesn't have the right mindset to be at Stanford anyway (I don't think this is the case, by the way).
If you want to worry about something, we apparently have competition for Solomon Thomas coming from Ohio State. Thomas took in the walloping the Buckeyes delivered to Penn State last weekend, and now some of the people in Columbus are claiming he will end up with them. Who knows, maybe he just was accompanying a friend. But, again, anyone who really wants the whole student experience, and values education, is going to choose Stanford over Ohio State. I assume the Buckeyes may be a backup as Thomas waits for the admissions process to work out. But if he chooses to go elsewhere, then he's not right for this very unique place.

Garnett wasn't good friends with the guy who was recruiting him to michigan. They met at some camp but they are hardly close friends. All these kids make friends at the camps they attend but for the most part when kids are a package deal it's because they are at the same HS, they are family, or a combination of both.

Just noticed from the picture from the top of the page that Solomon Thomas needs some tape for his glasses.
Hope Casey Tucker was watching that game.
