Tommy Fleetwood has never won a PGA event, that's true. 34 years old, 9th in FedEx Cup standings, five top 10s already this year, over $31 mms. in career earnings. Eight international wins. Been on PGA Tour since 2018, has played in 160 events.

Parallel question: most successful golfer to have never won a major? Probably Matt Kuchar, 47 years old, nine-time winner on tour, 15 runners up, 16 third place finishes, 119 Top 10s, $61 million in official winnings. Lost the 1996 U. S. Amateur to Tiger Woods. Was the low amateur at both The Masters and the U. S. Open. 4x Ryder Cup, 5x Presidents Cup, 3x World Cup. Led 2010 tour in winnings. No majors. Best majors finish, 2nd at The Open in 2017, third at the Masters in 2012, 6th at the U. S. Open in 2010 and seventh at the PGA in 2015.

IMO, Lee Westwood holds the title of greatest w/o a major.

I overlooked him because he only has two PGA tour wins and plays on the LIV tour and has less than 2/3rds the winnings of Kuchar. But Westy has 44 international wins, played on 10 Ryder Cups (most of any Euro, 21-20-6 record), ended Tiger Woods' reign was #1 ranked golfer, was #1 for 22 weeks. Plays on the LIV tour. 4x Euro golfer of the year, runner-up in both the Open and the Masters (twice), third at the US Open (twice), third at the PGA. 19 Top Ten finishes in the 91 majors he has played. So I get it.

My runner-up is Colin Montgomerie, he had an incredible career that is sadly remembered mostly for the ‘06 U.S. Open (which stands alone as the most amazing finish in that tournament’s history).

Scottie Scheffler won The Open today, his fourth major, 1,197 days since his first major win. How many days between Tiger first and fourth major wins?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BostonCard - 07-20-2025

Tigers first win was the 97 Masters.  His fourth could have happened no later than 2000, when he won 3/4 majors (all but the Masters, which he won in 2001 to complete the Tiger slam). I think he won one in 99, so his fourth was probably the 2000 British open.  Given that Scheffler’s first was also the Masters (in 2022), and his fourth was the British open, I would guess Tiger went 1197 ± 1 week between titles as well.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Mick - 07-21-2025

Tiger won the 1997 Masters on April 13, 1997 and The Open on July 23, 2000. 1,197 days exactly.

At that time, Tiger was 24 years, six months and 23 days old, he ended up with 15 major wins. Nicklaus ended up at 18 major wins, he won his fourth (1965 U. S. Open) at age 25 years, 3 months, and 10 days

Scottie Scheffler won his fourth major at age 29 years and 29 days. I don't think Scottie will get to 15 major wins. My guess is he'll be like Watson, who won his fourth major at age 30 years, 10 months, 16 days. My guess is that Scheffler gets to nine major wins.

BTW, one of my biggest sporting thrills was watching Tom almost win the 2009 Open when he was nearly sixty. Lost in a four hole playoff.

Stanford/Watson trivia...he played on Stanford's golf team, but also represented Stanford in one other sport. What was that sport?

1,197. Well done.

Name the two MLB switch hitters who had 100 or more hits from each side of the plate in a season

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - PAsportsfan - 07-21-2025

Philly beat Boston tonight on a walk off catchers interference call. When was the last game to end on a walk off catchers interference call?

Genuinely have no idea, but as a wild guess, I would say (as a hitter) it involves either Jorge Soler or Nick Senzel, who are masters at drawing catcher's interference calls. As catchers, I'd guess either the Twins' Gary Sanchez or the Astros' Milt May.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Mick - 07-21-2025

Apparently catcher's interference calls are on the rise because catchers are scooting closer to home plate for pitch framing purposes.

Didn’t involve Solar or Senzel. I will say the catcher is in the HOF.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Mick - 07-22-2025

willie wilson

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 07-22-2025

Yes Willie Wilson is one. The other played many years in the same State with Wilson.

That hint suggests that the other player was a Cardinal. How about Willie McGee?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 07-22-2025

Not McGee After St Louis this player played for the Padres

Hmmm . . . Garry Templeton? I think he was a switch hitter.
