I'd like to point out that I found fishman's post quite persuasive. It moved the needle a bit on my gauge of Shaw's position, and it gave me pause about the team's solidarity.Â
I would be surprised that Shaw did not see this possibility coming and have a second game plan ready to go before bowl practices.

The article can be pretty much be summed up with this quote: "Theres no right or wrong answer."
End of discussion. We can only speak to how each of us personally absorbs this situation. No one needs to persuade anyone else of the proper way in which to react. Events will unfold and we will adjust our perceptions further as necessary.

Here is R.J.'s take:

I don't think this has been posted before. If it has please excuse me for not going through all 23 pages to check.
Interesting that he argues that this action is very consistent with CMac's character as demonstrated in the past.
This takes me back to my original observation. Are we now going to have players bailing in the middle of the season because they have decided the upside to their draft prospects of playing the rest of the season is not worth the downside of them being injured? R.J sounds like he would be OK with that.

Jadeveon Clowney sort of did that at South Carolina--he essentially opted out of some games citing medical reasons during his junior year that many didn't think were "severe" enough. He's doing just fine in the NFL, and I'm curious as to how he's remembered by South Carolina fans now.

Wasn't it during the bowl game following Clowney's sophomore season when he made that hit heard 'round the college football world, knocking a Michigan running back's helmet off? Anyway, I remember there was some real talk about sitting out his junior year, the argument being that he was already a consensus top five pick. Finally some folks starting saying it would speak poorly about his competitive spirit, and he played. It's probably just a matter of time, though, before someone goes down that road.

There's a tremendous difference between sitting out a bowl game and sitting out an entire season.

Why can't people get over this?Â
In any case, I'm inclined to believe the team is pissed. It's one thing for fans to say guys have to do what they think is best for themselves, but if we were on the team, I'm sure we'd feel like we were being ditched.
I'm going to surmise the Stanford football team is going to play with a chip on its shoulder that it otherwise would not have had if CMac played, against UNC on Friday.

But we are not the team, we are fans -- fans to whom Christian owes nothing. What's wrinkled me about this topic is everyone claiming to be so concerned about how the team feels. Seems to me that people feel personally insulted or abandoned and are using the "team" as a proxy. Perhaps I'm a cynic.

I'm not mad/angry/frustrated at CMac, or disappointed in CMac, or any other roughly similar sentiment - I'm just sad for my dad and myself because we were really looking forward to seeing him play one more time in a Stanford uniform...

Well, if there were no fans, there would be no scholarships to play college football. No NFL, either, for that matter. But of course it's open to question how much the players owe the fans. McCaffrey gave us a lot already.
