so the news media were writing last night that the lakers were hoping maybe anthony davis didn't have a concussion. today the lakers say anthony davis has cleared concussion protocol and can play tomorrow.
to me this is the same negligent nonsense we were seeing in the nfl.
anthony davis was holding his head in his hands, wincing in pain, for quite a while. beyond that, he was staggering and unable to walk on his own. he had a traumatic injury affecting his balance &/or coordination: that is, by definition, a concussion. there is no maybe! the only questions are how serious and how long effects will last.
concussion symptoms can appear hours or days later. the nba concussion protocol states that a player is removed from participation until all symptoms are gone for a minimum of 24 hours and a physician exam shows no signs of impairment. typical time is a week to 2 weeks.
24 hours have not passed. there is no possible way a d could be cleared this morning.
likely he'll be ok, but he is in real danger if he hits his head again. this is the tua tagavailoa situation all over again.

Excellent point. I felt the same way when Draymond banged his head on the floor. Get the player off the floor to safe, quiet space where he can be evaluated. They had AD sitting on the bench being evaluated where he was completely defenseless if players or the ball came at him. They really don't care about player welfare.

Which is insane, given how much teams have invested in these players, particularly someone like AD.

no clue? hmmm...indeed, i offered an opinion, but it's an informed opinion. sure, i could be wrong; but i am a doctor, and i do have some knowledge of these things.
for your reference, here is the definition of concussion from the american association of neurological surgeons.
link
A concussion is an injury to the brain that results in temporary loss of normal brain function. Medically, it is defined as a clinical syndrome characterized by immediate and transient alteration in brain function, including alteration of mental status or level of consciousness, that results from mechanical force or trauma.... Symptoms:...headache...imbalance...if any of these occur.
sure looked like imbalance to me. do you "need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows?"
i grant that it's quite possible that davis was flopping, that he was unsteady, unable to stand up or walk without support, needing a wheelchair only until he got out of sight of the cameras and refs, after which he was just fine.
also for your reference, the nba protocol on concussion:
link
"...cannot return to participation for 48 hours."

For those not scoring at home, the Sixers managed ONE point in final 5:57 of 4th quarter of Game 6 against Celtics. The game revealed how much better the C’s are with Robert Williams and Al Horford playing together. Warriors and Lakers aren’t the only series featuring adjustments. Hard not to like Boston in Game 7. It was funny seeing the national media give Boston no chance in Game 6.
Man Devin Booker sure did regress to the mean as seemed likely. Just 4-13 and 12 in Game 6 in close out home loss for Suns. This makes me think Klay Thompson is due for a breakout shooting game for opposite reason I expected Booker to falter.
As for Wiggins, if he wasn’t playing Game 6 he would be listed as out. My assumption is he will take a pain killing injection and play. Then the question is how effective will he be?
As for Davis and concussions, I’ve had two diagnosed concussions in my life and neither one did I lose my balance or need a wheelchair to move. I feel pretty confident saying he will not play well in Game 6 if he has a concussion. The noise, light and chaos of an NBA playoff game, with the general brain fog will make it difficult for him. He’s also a guy who falls to the floor a lot. If Davis was concussed it won’t take a hit to head for him to be visibly impaired again and he’d be more at risk to miss a Game 7 if impairment is observed. Seems like too big a risk to play him in Game 6 to me.
What would the NBA and Lakers do if the medical community reacts in opposition to Davis playing Game 6? Docs and coaches could be worried about young hoopers disregarding concussions as a result of how Davis situation is being handled, yes?

Man, just read about Wiggins. That’s a killer.
What would Lakers do? Nothing. If he’s cleared, he plays. Do we even know he had a concussion?

apparently the tnt crew thought it was a flop - one of the funniest they have ever seen. they were laughing hysterically and explained afterwards that they weren't laughing at a concussion; rather the blow from looney was so minor that they were sure he didn't have a concussion and was just putting on a show. that would certainly explain why the doctors in the locker room found him healthy and cleared him.

Davis also has somewhat of a reputation as a drama king when it comes to injuries.
Warriors cannot beat Lakers without a significant contribution from Wiggins. If he can’t play or has limited minutes, those clamoring for Kuminga may get their wish.

What an abject abomination for the NBA to give a team 41 free throws in a Game 6. The Warriors picked a bad night for their worst shooting performance of the season, but they had 103 shots to the Lakers 75. That is just an a sane number.
Wiggins clearly was bothered by his injury.
The Splash Brothers were the Brick Brothers in the biggest moment of the season. You can’t pay Klay Thompson $43M to perform as he did in these playoffs.

Curry had 39. (Edit 32) Wasn’t on him. Klay looked old. I feel bad for him. This series meant a lot to him.

Hard to say exactly what major changes will happen.
Steph will be back.
Klay will be back. No one else wants his contract.
Dray may be gone, but if he opts out and walks we get nothing back for him and get worse. I expect he stays.
Looney and Wiggins aren’t going anywhere. Same for GP2.
That leaves DDV and the younguns. We’d love to have DDV back but probably can’t afford him. Will depend on his offers but with his quiet playoffs we might have a shot. Moody or Kuminga are back unless we package them in a trade for a better vet.
Poole is the wildcard. He had a rough year and brutal playoffs. He provides something we need in secondary shot creation but at the expense of just awful D and fouling. His salary really hurts with the tax next year but converesely his value is at a low point. I could see us holding on and hoping for the best. I could see us swapping him for another talented but disappointing player like Ayton. I could see us packaging him, picks, and maybe Kuminga or Moody to go after a major upgrade like OG or Siakam or Derozan or so on.
I think that we can assume 2 timelines is dead. Steph is the timeline. Kuminga and Moody and maybe Poole are nice but if that is your nucleus you’re near the top of the lottery.

Don’t sleep on Patrick Baldwin Jr. when thinking about Warriors moving forward. To me, he’s a more skilled Michael Porter Jr. He’s a better ball handler with higher hoops IQ.
In terms of trades, Klay Thompson does have some trade value for a rebuilding team due to his expiring contract status.
The first shoe that must drop is Bob Myers. Does he stay or does he go? Probably can expect a Kawakami interview with Joe Laconia soon.

I expect major moves this offseason for the Dubs. Klay and Draymond will both likely be moved, with the Dubs picking up part of Klay's salary.
Nobody on the roster is safe other than Curry who I expect will retire when his current contract is up
They've had a great run, among the top 3 of the last 30-ish years (Bulls, Spurs). But it's time for the next generation of players
