Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - 82 Card - 09-03-2016

And UCLA chokes in overtime. Receiver misses pass that should have been caught at goal line.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - BostonCard - 09-03-2016

And the Bruins come back to tie it only to lose in overtime.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - ChicagoCard - 09-03-2016

Did Mora leave the field without greeting Sumlin?

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - BostonCard - 09-03-2016

UNC is beating Georgia 24-23... if that holds another blow for the SEC.  That makes UCLA's pathetic showing problematic for the P12.

USC scores first on Alabama.  3-0 early.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - BostonCard - 09-03-2016

It's early BUT UMass tied Florida.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - BostonCard - 09-03-2016

Is it too early to make the Rosen/Browning comparisons?

Josh Rosen: 26-46, 343 YDS, 7.5 YPA, 1 TD, 3 INT in a loss
Jake Browning: 18-27, 287 YDS, 10.6 YPA, 3 TD, I INT in a win

for comparison:
Ryan Burns 14-18, 156 YDS, 8.7 YPA, 1 TD, 0 INT in a win

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - washingtonismoney - 09-03-2016

To be fair for the comparison, should probably charge a fumble against Burns.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - washingtonismoney - 09-03-2016

btw UC Davis put up 28 points on the Ducks (though mostly in garbage time and only at 4.9 yards per play, which isn't great overall but seems suspiciously high for an FCS team against a ranked FBS one.)

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - washingtonismoney - 09-03-2016

'bama has three sacks and the 2nd quarter has barely begun.

Sure, but I didn't check if any of the other QB's fumbled anything.  Browning clearly had a very good day, the best of the three.  Rosen pretty clearly had an awful day, the worst of the three.  Fumble or no fumble, Burns was in the middle.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - stupac2 - 09-03-2016

Adjusted for opposition Burn might've had the best day, Rutgers is not a good team.

Anyway, this USC game is going differently than I thought. Bama's OL looks terribad. USC's defense might be elite, or it might merely be good, hard to tell with Bama being offensively incompetent.

Oh, and if you want evidence that Helton is a bad coach, USC used all 3 TO's in about 12 minutes of gametime. That could certainly come back to haunt them.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - CornFed - 09-03-2016

Does Rutgers pose an equal challenge as KSU and A&M?

It's far from being as clear as the raw statistics would imply. Browning was playing against an awful Rutgers team; KSU showed up with a solid defense and looks like they will be a competitive squad the year. Burns was nearly flawless when given time in the pocket.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - CornFed - 09-03-2016

USC's offense, so far, does not appear to fear-inducing.  At least two of Browne's completions are due to the fact that he has very, very good receivers.  I like our secondary against them.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - washingtonismoney - 09-03-2016

SC's LT limping off. He's their backup LT -- so if he's out for any amount of time, that gives them a choice between Wheeler, their starter, hobbled by plantar fasciitis, and their third-choice guy.

And then there is the simple fact that it is only one game.  I expect Rosen to be better; I'm sure not all of Brownings games will be 3 TD 1 INT days (like, hopefully, when he plays us), and given that he is playing his first year, I'm sure Burns will have an up and down day.  And I get the effect of the opposition, and the effect of the offensive line and receivers, etc.

But the raw numbers were worth a look.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - washingtonismoney - 09-03-2016

SC's DT, Noah Jefferson, walked off injured. SC fans I know were nervous about the depth of their front seven.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - washingtonismoney - 09-03-2016

An SC LB just got ejected for stomping on a Tide player's groin. The usual class from those guys.

Doesn't have quite the same ring as 14-18, 8.7 ypaa, 1 TD, 0 INT

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - stupac2 - 09-03-2016

If you're gonna get ejected, may as well do it for stomping on a dude's crotch. What a chump. Next play is a pick-six, and now we have the game I expected to see.
