Seemingly. I thought we'd be fine with Murphy -- he looked poor last night. Alexander and Buncom didn't look good at all, which is highly disappointing. There'd been some positive buzz on Buncom from spring; seems like he stalled.

I thought Buncom looked OK, all things considered.

Sorry, I was feeling pretty blue this morning. Better now due to the 24 hour rule.

What I am having a harder time understanding is our ineptitude on the OL. The Huskies DL was just killing us - pass rush, plugging the run, you name it - they did it. Does anyone have any detailed views on why things went the way they did? Scheme, mismatches, other?
Shawgren's stupid Hall-Tucker experiment is what killed the OL.
But I maintain that there was nothing the coaches - or players - could have done to win the game. UW was simply the more talented team and they played fantastic. Better preparation, coaching, and execution could have made the score much more respectable but would not have changed the win-loss outcome.

I don't think flipping the OTs did us in. We weren't stopping UW either way. They were supposed to be good and proved it.
The big issue is that coaches in the conference that value their jobs have had some time to account for what we do. Some of them are going to figure it out. Bigger stronger linemen on D. Washington had a lot more trouble with Arizona's spread. But they are building to get past us.
Our issue is what to do when plan A isn't working. Last year, we could run Hogan or spread the ball around a bit more than we seem comfortable with right now.

This is nonsense. Tucker would have been worse at LT than Hall, and Burns would have been blindsided more often if he was.Â
The bigger issue is not putting the players in position to succeed, being too predictable, and not diversified enough on offense. It does seems the QB is being asked to do things he can't do, and there is no real effort to make his job easier. Stanford football seems to be driven by a mentality that says "we're going to do what we do in a very narrow scope, and if you stop us, you will win." None of this has anything to do with who is playing where on the OL.

I am not sure about the individuals, but clearly we would benefit from improved o-line execution. That said I want to repeat thoughts already expressed about sprint-outs and plays like Spider-3 y-banana. And finally is Greg Roman still available as a consultant?

All of the above. When a lineman gets beat and our QB is sacked, he got outplayed, which could mean he was not well coached and/or the other player was better coached, and he was not prepared and/or the other player was more prepared. Lack of preparation can be the fault of the player and/or the coach. I've known players that resisted coaches trying to get them in shape. I've also seen coaches let players slack off on preparation.
The bottom line is that our TEAM lost because of all the individual battles that were lost. It only takes one player to blow his assignment for a play to get blown up.
I will say that there were so many blown assignments that I don't think the coaches could have done anything on gameday to change the outcome.
