Re: Coaching carousel - OutsiderFan - 11-30-2016

Anyone who thinks Cal is being proactive about Dyke.s needs to have a reality check.  Cal isn't proactive about anything when it comes to sports.  And while Dyke.s' agent has publicly pushed him for virtually every job in the country for three years, the situation is different now than the previous two.

Dyke.s signed an extension last year, went 5-7, and has no leverage to get another deal out of anyone but Baylor right now.  Having his agent say he is a candidate when he isn't, doesn't do anything to help his cause.  So there probably is fire from the Dyke's to Baylor smoke here.

There is a lot of rejoicing among the Cal fan base right now, just at the prospect Dyke.s could leave.  But they should know better than to think something they want so much will actually happen.

You guess? If there were any justice in the world they would get the death penalty in perpetuity and Briles would be in jail. What they allowed to occur was so far beyond the pale that there is no justification whatsoever and punishing the whole institution is completely appropriate.

Toxicity - Redrum - 11-30-2016

Too bad Trump didn't set his priorities and drain the Baylor swamp first.  And, it deserves to wander in the wilderness awhile for its sins.  That said, hiring Dykes wouldn't be punishment of biblical proportions.  In Texas and at Baylor he'd finally have access to talent that he generally didn't have at Kal.  Nor would he have those pesky academic restrictions.  But at this point, I'd sell my third-born to the Fates if they'd keep him around Kal for a couple more years.

Apparently Bruce Feldman (or his source) is floating Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo for the Oregon job: https://twitter.com/BruceFeldmanCFB/status/803995228025671680

That would be fascinating. Niumatalolo is a darn good coach. It'd be fascinating to see his offense run with Oregon's athletes. On the other hand, it'd be hard to recruit equivalent athletes, I'd imagine, to Oregon in the future given the scheme.

I doubt the fan base would stand for that kind of offense...and I'm including Phil Knight in there. If they go that direction, they are at least 3-4 years away from being competitive...if they ever get there again.

There's a private jet going between South Bend and Eugene today: https://twitter.com/johnP_hayes/status/804041295132000257

So you're saying there's a chance? :P

Well at least they'll be able to save a little money by recycling all the "Coach Kelly" signs.  But I'm a little concerned that neon green & yellow do not mix well with purple-face.

Re: Coaching carousel - fullmetal - 11-30-2016

So Phil Knight thinks that Brian Kelly is an acceptable coach?  C'mon Phil...you know better than that.

Re: Coaching carousel - jacketree - 11-30-2016

Nothing is shocking, but I would be surprised if Niumatalolo would even entertain an offer from Oregon; not after the serious dalliance with BYU last year. (Coach Ken is LDS.)  Besides, he's turned Navy into a consistent force even after joining the AAC.  If Ohio can beat WMU, Navy has a clear path to the Cotton Bowl by beating Temple for the conference championship, although I wonder how the powers would deal with the fact that Army-Navy is the sole game on the docket one week after the championships are settled.

Navy, Georgia Tech, Air Force, Baylor, Oregon, Texas Tech and others run variants of the spread option. Some pass more, some run more; but the scheme would translate well to the players in Eugene.

I really think the secret sauce to Navy's success is Ivan Jasper. He was ready to step into the breach at USNA had Niumatalolo left for BYU.  Never know if success at OC translates to HC, but my son was pretty close to that team and staff and thought it would.

The Everyday Should be Saturday guys decided on their podcast that if Brian Kelly was ever carried off the field by his players it would be against his will and he would wind up in a dumpster.

Supposedly they'll postpone announcing the G5 NY6 participant, which as you can imagine would lead to other problems: http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/18171618/navy-midshipmen-win-aac-title-game-paralyze-bowl-system

A possibility of Purple-Face, Mora, Rich Rod, & Leach all in our conference?  Oh the humanity!

Go Navy!!!

Re: Coaching carousel - jacketree - 11-30-2016

Yeah, go Navy!

Treat the bowl system like Iwo Jima.

If Navy finishes 11-2 they could still be relegated to the Armed Forces bowl just as if they were 6-6 or 5-7.
