Oooh Chantel Jennings is on SportsCenter now... She's in Washington messaging w/ a UW assistant, who believe they should be in, but are also worried about how people think about their non-conf schedule and the "chaos" elsewhere.
But she basically said UW was in last week, and they dominated their game, so how can you tell them they're out now?

Kentucky, Kent State and Chattanooga (on week 11?!?!), and only playing 8 conference games (OK they beat Under Stanford Control (again)...)
And Ohio State and Penn State had to play that same stupid Rutgers team as Washington; why aren't there schedules discounted?
Again, people keep discounting the Pac-12, as if beating Stanford, Utah, Washington State and Colorado aren't worth anything.
My perhaps unclear point about UW's OOC schedule this year, was to compare it to our schedule last year, and to note that because we played two high quality OOCÂ teams and lost to one of them, we were knocked out of the CFP, but that UW didnt take that OOC risk and benefitted from that decision by likely going to the CFP.

Imagine a Rose Bowl with U.SC or UW vs. Ohio State, Penn State or Michigan. Any of those games would be a marquee matchup as interesting as either of the semifinal games.

I believe UW should be in, but you only have to go back two years to disprove her logic. TCU was ranked #3 going into the final weekend in 2014 and won their game 55-3, but dropped out of the top four in the final rankings.

Ah, here's what's happening (and you could argue is the flaw).
Looking at the
selection process procedure
"... place an emphasis on winning conference championships,
strength of schedule and head-to-head competition when comparing teams with similar records and
pedigree (treat final determination like a tie-breaker; apply specific guidelines)."
In other words, look at their records first, then use the other stuff to break ties.
OSU, Clemson and Washington have one loss. So you look at the other stuff to sort those three, but you don't use it to bring in two-loss teams.

First off, none of those talking heads on TV are on the committee. Their in-grained nature is to keep up the suspense. (See any game with one tam up 35-0 at halftime. )
UW is in. There will be a discussion about PSU vs tOSU, though I suspect it'll be tOSU.
In addition, the committee is supposed to look beyond fewest losses, though so far they have never elevated a team with more losses into the playoff. The only candidate this year is PSU over tOSU. I doubt we'll see it, but we'll know soon enough.
Kirk Herbstreit says UW doesn't deserve it -

It would set a bad precedent. UW has a bad OOC schedule, #127 in the country.

One thing to keep in mind is that, IIRC, the committee doesn't look at those rankings, all they see is record against teams with a winning record. Sure, there's also gut feel and knowing the teams, but as pointed out above UW's slate isn't significantly different from Alabama's, when you consider that it appeared to be down years for the Pac and SEC.

I personally think that Washington needed style points over the last two weeks. It got them in wins over Wazzu and Colorado.
LSU losing to Florida also helped, as that was considered a very good win by Wisconsin.

But UW only played 3 OOC games because the Pac-12 has 9 conference games. Against a few other conferences that 9th game should be compared against their best OOC. Then UW scheduled a Power5 conference team. Ironically, from the same conference with all of these teams now getting credit for playing in that conference. Idaho is a local thing, lots of teams have that type of deal.
Leaves one game. If that one OOC game is a real disqualifier then what were all of those SEC teams doing to get into the BCS and now CFP? Oh, that's right they branded themselves "The Nation's Best Conference" so no need to worry about the 4 OOC cupcakes they were often playing AT HOME.
The bias against the AfterBedtime conference is getting tired. At every turn the Pac-12, or its players, have whatever attributes are not important and have flaws in whatever is the attribute of the year. Often the narrative will change the very next year. See: Andrew Luck, Pac-12 BCS CG invitations, Pac-12 BCS at-large invitations, Pac-12 CFP considerations.
Gets to be a bit much. I have full faith that UW is in.
Real questions for me are down the list. Colorado or USC in the Rose? Pac-12 should have at least 2 in NY6. That would be OK. Three would be better. And if the Pac-12 had the same level of love as the BigTen or SEC it would be three this year. So we shall see.

Herbstreit may be right about weak OOC, but isn't the real issue SOS, regardless of who you play OOC? By that measure, UW's SOS is #55 and PSU is #40. But Michigan's is only #54.
When you look at the resumes of UW, PSU, and Michigan, they are so damn close. Strong arguments can be made for all three at the #4 spot, so it will be difficult to argue with any choice. The one worry for Washington is that its best wins aren't nearly as impressive as Michigan and PSU have, and Washington didn't play a team as good as Michigan or Ohio State, which if they did, might have given them a second loss that probably wouldn't even have them in the discussion for #4 right now.

They did schedule SC which was expected to be (and ultimately was) a top team. Their good fortune was that they played them before the QB switch and the team coming together and playing up to its talent level and potential.
And Western Kentucky is miles ahead of any of UW's opponents, 10-3 with their only losses being to Vanderbilt (by one point), Louisiana Tech (by three points) and Alabama.

So instead of playing in Pasadena (which the Huskies have not done in 16 years), Washington plays 2500 miles away in Atlanta vs. an Alabama team that looks like one of the best in college football history.Â
Ask the Michigan State fans how it worked out last year when they won the conference championship then got thumped by Bama. How did that experience compare to the prior year when they went to Pasadena and beat Stanford?
Re: Conference Championship Weekend Game Thread -

I honestly think UW would rather face Bama first than second. This gives Petersen forever to prepare and, uh, he's pretty good at that. I might be more comfortable facing Bama after a long layoff than UW.

Opening line is Alabama by 14 points. I take Alabama. USC lost to Alabama by a 52-3 score, Washington lost to USC 26-13. I think Petersen's going to do a great job of preparation, but I think Saban will do a better one.

I'd rather Stanford play in Siberia if it meant playing for a national championship. I don't understand this attitude.

Playing comparative scores for Washington and Alabama against U$C is, IMO, pretty meaningless.
With Bradford in there and having a few games under his belt, U$C is a much, much better team than they were against Alabama. Also, Washington had the game from hell against U$C.
Alabama may win, but I think assuming they will based on that data is incorrect.

I agree. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed us dominating Iowa in the Rose Bowl, I would rather us had the opportunity to play Alabama in the national playoffs even if it meant us being beaten by a healthy margin.
