Perhaps because of the threat of bad weather tomorrow afternoon/evening (thunderstorms), slow play or both, the tournament committee is sending teams off tomorrow beginning at 6:45 am local time.
Fortunately for any Cardinal golfers who may hate early tee times, Stanford plays in the afternoon. They start on #1 tee beginning at 12:40 pm central. This means that Golf Channel coverage will probably pick up Stanford as it makes the turn.

Yes, match play is the traditional 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, and 4v5 format. No reseeding after that, per the schedule posted here on pages 11 and 12:

Geaux Cardinal!

Glad we're playing this round with Northwestern - it'll give our players a chance to see how they play the holes, which I'm sure will pay dividends provided we make it to match play (I see you, woofing gods!).

As always on final days, today's story focuses at the cut line. #6 USC and #13 Miami, curently in seventh and eighth, could get battles for those final spots from #7 ASU and #3 Florida, the scariest team--other than ours--in the event.Â
The depth of SC and Florida makes them scary draws for the team that wins the stroke play.
I'll stick with my yesterday morning bet of the final eight, but Miami and SC have battles ahead of them. Stick voodoo pins in your Tommy Trojan dolls; they've handled us this year.

We could see some much lower scores today. Alabama's five players have played an aggregate of 35 holes--in even par.Â
A bet:Â We see our first round in the 60's.
The par five second is playing like a par four. We need birdies there today.
Florida is a team to watch. If they can crack the final eight, their depth makes them scary in match play.

Ahh, I thought the cancellation of Saturday's play was an elimination of an entire round. Okay. Much more equitable to the early Friday teams who got slammed.Â
All Stanford has to do is to do their thing, it seems. Good position to be in.

Hulk, did you hear that Florida had to replace their #2 player at the last minute?

Yes, Florida is a deep and capable team. But once you advance to match play, every team could win it. Unexpected things can happen in such a pressured environment. Sierra Kersten for example beat a Duke player last year who had been 10-1 in match play and that was the key to Stanford's semifinal victory.

Thanks, Spiny. I didn't know that.
And the story adds to the evidence. Florida is so deep that their #6 can come in and shoot a 75 at RHF--two and a half strokes better than the average on the day.
Speaking of which, Alabama is going out with a roar.Â

Good for them; 3 horrific rounds in a row would have been difficult to live with.
Alabama appears to be an outlier today at -2; e.g., Duke is +12 on the back nine with just one birdie.

For the first time in the tournament, the wind is out of the south today. The wind was out of the north on Friday and Sunday. Since south is the prevailing wind direction, the course should play closer to the intent of the designer and the competition committee when they set it up.
Also the predicted thunderstorms may not reach the area until after dark.Â

#2 Alabama playing with their hair on fire. -1 for the day and almost through the whole course. Hope they don't make up the 20 shots they need to make the cut.
Re: Last woman standing: NCAA golf begins -
fullmetal - 05-22-2017
Bama has 12 collective holes to play (10 if you drop the two holes left by the current highest score player). They'd have to eagle every hole left to make up 20 shots...!
Re: Last woman standing: NCAA golf begins -
Hulk01 - 05-22-2017
Barring 25-30 mile per hour winds coming up afternoon, Alabama has no chance of making the final eight. The cut might be 53-5e. But quite a story if the Tide break par, given the low team round to date of +10.
Alabama's #5 is in: 89-84-72. Crazy.
Re: Last woman standing: NCAA golf begins -

The three teams right behind us (Ohio State, Baylor and South Carolina) are already struggling on the first few holes. A solid, safe round by us should get us in.

Northwestern already at -2 as their #1 eagles hole 2. Nice.

On the other hand, if Florida creeps up and lands at #8 when the day is done, Northwestern may have wished it had made a few more bogeys. I imagine whichever top seed were to play Florida in match play would be pretty unhappy, even Northwestern.

My bet is the seventh and eighth seed are going to be very good and deep teams--two of Arizona State, USC, or Florida. Let's finish the third seed.

Alabama did beat par and has the best score of the day by 9 strokes, but everyone is beating their earlier scores, mostly by big margins.Â
You're right that Alabama's great score today is, almost certainly, too little too late. Alabama, Michigan and kal are tied for 15th as of now, and each team ahead of them, except ASU, would stay ahead if it merely tied its own score from yesterday.Â
Re: Last woman standing: NCAA golf begins -

Way too little too late. I earlier pegged the cut at 53-55. It might edge lower.

The one odd thing with Florida is that so far today, their #1 is the non-counting score at +4 through 8. The others are all E or -1. If that starts to balance out, Florida has nowhere to go but up, because their #1 would need to birdie 5 times to improve Florida's overall score. it'll be interested to see whether there's any reversion to the mean on the back (although actually front) nine for Florida, because it will only hurt them if so.
