Valenzuela down 2 through the first 6 holes.

Update: Valenzuela down 4 through 18 holes.

Valenzuela just was outplayed: no birdies to her opponent's 3. But a great tournament and runner-up finish for her, one that gets her a spot in the US Women's Open next year.

The final is 36 holes so still an opportunity to come back. It can happen if some of her birdie putts fall and she gets a little help from her opponent. But it's really tough when your opponent makes no mistakes which is what happened this morning.

Afternoon round begins at 12:30.

Perhaps you're clairvoyant, but Valenzuela's match is at the 18 hole break.

A great week for Stanford.  Aubert will take this is a brobdingnagian boost--and how many college teams ever have had the US Amateur medalist as its #3?  Mika Liu is a great addition, and there could be a nice battle to produce a very solid #5.

Good start to the afternoon round. Valenzuela finally makes a birdie!  3 down after 19 holes.  Maybe that win can get into the head of her opponent a bit and make her feel some pressure.

TV coverage on FS1 begins at 1 pm.

Didn't realize it was 36 holes! If I was sharper I would have wondered why they played out the full 18.
Of course, she's still totally in it.

Valenzuela lost 6&5, great tournament and she qualifies for the U.S. Open at Shoal Creek next year.

Made a number of par putts to stay in it, but missed a number of birdie putts that could have made it interesting.
