He just set an NCAA record for yards per carry and was step for step carrying a football with TCU's 4.32 40 DB.

I think he's fast enough.

Still no word on Bryce Love that I can see. How common is it these days for early entrants to wait this long after their bowl game to announce?

BR, FWLIW, has him going first round to Seattle. I'm not sure how many other mock drafts are out there that include him in the first round.

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - Hank 91 - 01-09-2018

Every time my phone buzzes I expect it to be something about Love. I still think he sticks for his senior year. I won't be surprised if he leaves, nor could I blame him, but I feel like he might come back, get his Stiff-Arm Trophy, play in the Rose Bowl, and get his degree. That would be a nice trifecta.

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - JohnR34231 - 01-09-2018

He's obviously giving this a lot of thought and consideration, which you would expect a guy like him to do.
I still think it's 50-50, which is what Shaw said a week or two ago.
I definitely won't be shocked either way.

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - YA_TITTLE - 01-09-2018

Winter quarter started yesterday and a friend of mine said Bryce showed up to class. Hopefully a good sign

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - OutsiderFan - 01-09-2018

Having no inside info, this is just speculation, but my guess is Bryce Love has been told he isn't going to be drafted very high in the NFL because of concerns about his size, durability (not toughness; there is a difference), and questions about him as a receiver.

If you look at McCaffrey, he's bigger than Love, and he looks really small in an NFL uniform.  Moreover, based on his rookie results, McCaffrey would be a total non-factor in the NFL were it not for his route running and pass catching ability. Love has shown very little as a receiver (6 catches for 33 yds as a Junior), and he hasn't returned kicks, so exactly what value does he have to an NFL team?

My guess is if Love returns for his Senior season at Stanford, his carries are reduced, and he gets used a receiver split out and out of the backfield much more frequently than was the case as a Junior.

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - yvonne - 01-09-2018

I have been holding off because I don't know how strong the source is, but a donor and former football player (from the 1980's or 1990's) has been saying for more than a month that Love is returning. I do not know this player personally, and he's not a household name. And no, it isn't because Love's been told he's not NFL material.

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - Langdude - 01-09-2018

I think Bryce's closest comp may be Darren Sproles or Chris Johnson. Both very fast and not that big. Sproles a bit smaller, Johnson a tad bigger. Sproles was a great runner in college, Johnson a better receiver. Sproles drafted in fourth round, Johnson in first. Both had good and long NFL careers.

I will stand by my prediction that Bryce returns. Though, as mentioned, I will understand if he does not.

My post wasn't intended to imply Love isn't NFL material, but it seems logical to assume most NFL personnel types have legitimate questions about how Bryce Love translates to the NFL game.

On another note, I just saw a - what I would consider credible - NFL mock draft that had Harrison Phillips as a first round pick, #23 to be exact.

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - Hank 91 - 01-09-2018

As expected, Justin Reid has just announced he's heading for the draft. Best of luck to him.

Not a surprise.  Hoping that Love and Meeks stay.

His brother Eric is one seriously sharp and thoughtful dude as well.  Eric and Justin must have outstanding parents.

Reid's letter is pretty special. I'm sure it was mentioned elsewhere, but Harrison Phillips's letter was also amazing. Just two more reminders of how lucky we are to be rooting for such great kids.

They have to commit by the 15th.

Mock first round drafts I've seen that don't have Love going in the first round: CBS,  Land of 10, Walter Football, SB Nation, SEC Country,

Mock first round drafts that include Bryce Love and the round: Bleacher Report (#20, Lions, published today)

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - Hey - 01-09-2018

I'm assuming that Terrance Alexander is on the Casey Tucker plan as well. Get the degree and keep eligibility for one more year somewhere else.

Alexander played vs Rice. So, to have eligibility he would have to apply for a medical redshirt to have any eligibility left. He would have played little enough, and early enough, to satisfy that part of it.

However, unlike Tucker where this was discussed from back in fall camp, I have not heard the same about Alexander (though that could be mainly a comment on my ability to hear).

Re: Going pro/coming back thread - lex24 - 01-09-2018

Did you watch McCaffrey this year?  Pretty hard to run when your line consistently gets blown up. Check Stewart YPC. Carolina couldn’t block.
