RE: 2018-19 Standings - BobK - 05-22-2019

Both track teams are picked for 7th place right now. Regionals start tomorrow

How many points would a track team get for 7th ??

Women’s tennis replaced men’s wrestling

Another question: is there still a limit of women’s sports being counted?

RE: 2018-19 Standings - BostonCard - 05-22-2019

Depends on how many teams are in the non-bracket championship.

To add to that, it looks to be 69 to 72 assuming at least 32 teams.

Bob, I believe the limit on how many men's or women's sports you can count was discarded when they moved to the mandatory sport system. So, no worries about racking up more women's titles!

Yes, no gender-specific requirements beyond Women's VB, Women's Basketball, Men's Basketball (our potential Achilles heel), and Baseball.  After Baseball, our best remaining scoring opportunity for net points is probably Women's Rowing which is seeded third.  We could also get net points from Men's Golf and the two Track and Field teams.  I would defer to others here about the more specific prospects for each of the remaining sports.

Looks like we need 80 points to eclipse last year’s total.  Presumably that will come from baseball (which won’t displace any other sport as it is a mandatory counter) and men’s golf, if they get more than 55.5 points.  We also have outdoor track, but do we expect the track teams to displace anything?  Any other sports outstanding?

Thanks

BC, in fact, the Cup score is the total of the four required sports plus the highest fifteen others.  I adjust our unofficial score whenever a sport scores more points than the lowest one previously counted but there's not really a one-for-one replacement based on when an improved score is earned.  In the end, the date of the points does not matter, just the amount.

As for other sports, other posts have addressed this since your question was posted.  I would not be surprised by a final total of 1,460 to 1,480.

Stanford teams have a realistic chance of exceeding last year's total of 1,442.00 points.

The National Champion Men's Golf team earns 100 Cup points.  Dropping the 55.5 points for W Gym gives a net gain of 44.5 points and a new unofficial total of 1,407 points.

The Cardinal still have significant scoring opportunities in Baseball and Women's Rowing and possibly some additional points in both WOTF and MOTF.

RE: 2018-19 Standings - M T - 05-29-2019

That makes me curious how our dropped scores would do overall as compared to the (non-dropped) scores of other schools?
Obviously, the StanfordDrops would get 0 in the 4 required sports,
plus 0 in the other 15 sports that Stanford scores the best.

I counted a total of 34 sports available.  That leaves 15 sports in
which StanfordDrops might score.

RE: 2018-19 Standings - Spiny_Norman - 05-29-2019

Virginia probably wrapped up the men's Capital One Cup with a win in lacrosse. They get 120 points just for basketball and lacrosse. Stanford would have to win baseball to catch them. But Stanford could finish 2nd.

Stanford women as of May 15 (most recent scoring report) have more points than 2nd and 3rd combined with rowing and OT&F still to come.

There are 37 sports governed by the NCAA.  Stanford participates in 31 of them.

RE: 2018-19 Standings - Canalejas - 05-29-2019

And of those 31 sports I think Stanford made the post-season in 27 of them.

The ones that didn't make it this year are Field Hockey, Men's Basketball, Men's Volleyball, and Beach Volleyball.  Did I miss any?

So if Stanford will score in 27 sports and have 18 of those count toward its Directors' Cup total it looks like we'll have nine non-counting scores.  It'll be fun to see how many P5 schools will have a lower point total than the sum of those nine non-counting scores.

Stanford has so far dropped football (45 points), fencing (54), women's gymnastics (55.5), and wrestling (34).  That's 188.5 points, which would be good enough in the current standings for 78th.  Softball (which I believe will be 37.5 points) and women's lacrosse (25) will also be dropped.  Rowing should displace men's swimming (60).  Then it's just a question of how well the men's and women's outdoor T&F teams do.  The next 2 scores to be displaced would be women's indoor T&F (63.75) and men's tennis (64).  Those 9 sports total 438.75 points.  That's the maximum possible.  Comparing this total to last year's final scores, 438.75 would have placed 56th. There were 3 non-power 5 schools in the top 55: Princeton (40th), BYU (45), and Denver (47).

RE: 2018-19 Standings - bnarver - 05-29-2019

For those of you who remember the old scoring system (top 10 men's sports and top 10 women's sports), Stanford's top score was 1550.25 in 2010-11.  Stanford would currently have 1561.5 under that system.  So, a good argument for this being Stanford's finest year.

RE: 2018-19 Standings - BigEasyCard - 06-02-2019

Women's Rowing finishes fourth and earns 80 Cup points.  Dropping the 60 points for M Swim gives a net gain of 20 points and a new unofficial total of 1,427 points.

The Cardinal still have a significant scoring opportunity in Baseball and some modest additional points opportunities in both WOTF and MOTF.

While the next release is June 6, the Cup presumably remains at Stanford:

"Trophy Presentation for the 2018-19 Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup winners will take place in conjunction with the 2019 NACDA Convention on Wednesday, June 12 at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida during the Directors' Cup Awards Luncheon."

Here's the link: https://nacda.com/sports/2018/7/17/directorscup-nacda-directorscup-current-scoring-html.aspx

Congratulations to all Stanford athletes for maintaining athletic excellence in Division 1 competition.

Interesting that they would schedule the awards presentation before baseball is completed.  I guess Stanford's dominance over the years has had an effect.

That schedule conflict has always been part of the deal as baseball wraps up after this annual meeting.
In the very early years there was actually a hope that the cup would not be clinched by the meeting and the organization would be able to highlight the upcoming dramatic finish.

While Baseball is still underway, the NACDA knows that Stanford has earned at least 50 points, putting our minimum score at 1,477.00.  The math was probably easier this year due to six National Championships.

Baseball wins their regional, so it has now earned at least 64 points.  Up to 1491.

Apparently, someone forgot to put in the latest metrics. See what happens when you add all the sports together. No wonder the other programs are complaining.

Hilarious. So even if Michigan could count every sport and we were capped at the 15+4, they'd still trail us by over 200 points. All Right Now!

The latest standings report the scores for all 23 sports in which Stanford has participated in post-season tournaments.  There are still 4 sports to add in.  The note at the top of the standings states that only 19 sports will be counted in the final standings, 4 of which are required sports.
