RE: Other games - BostonCard - 09-22-2019

Flight was fine.  Landing and seeing we scored six points was not.

Ouch, tough game for Michigan...

Yup.  Harbaugh is in a tough spot.  His alma mater may not want him around much longer.  Strange that he cannot develop a powerhouse program at a place like Michigan.  That university should be tailor-made for his brand of football.

Yes, 6 points of offense, two FGs, one when trailing by eighteen points in the 4th quarter.  O the humanity!

RE: Other games - BostonCard - 09-22-2019

For all the frustrations about Harbaugh in big games, he has brought a fair bit of success to Michigan.  He's 40-15 as a coach at Michigan (73% winning percentage), and has won 10 games three times in four seasons.  Michigan is favored in 6 out of its last 9 games (by ESPN's FPI), so there is a decent chance that they will end the year with 7 - 9 wins.

For comparison, Brady Hoke went 31-20 (61%), Rich Rod went 15-22 (40%), and Carr went 122-40 (75%, slightly better than Harbaugh).  Even the legendary Bo Schembechler went 194-48-5 (80%); that's better than Harbaugh, but not dramatically so.

Harbaugh is 0-7 as an underdog at Michigan.

Who had Cal as the only undefeated PAC-12 team 4 weeks into the season?

Step up and take a bow.

Wow, I didn’t realize just how badly the Cougs couged it.  I mean that’s next level couging.  I seriously wonder what would have happened here if Leech, and I know this is crazy, but of Leech had just taken the play clock down to 3 seconds and had Borghi run the ball on every down.

How do you allow one team to score 50 points in a quarter and change?

BC

Like, Borghi had 123 yards on 15 carries.  He had a grand total of five after WSU went up 49-17.

I’m sure it was entertaining, but that’s coaching malpractice.

BC

Random crazy fact.  The last time UCLA came back from a deficit of 32 or more to win a football game was... 2017, when they came back from down 34 to beat Texas A&M.

All coaches prior to Bo were 4-0 in bowl games
Bo was 5-12 in bowl games.
The despised Moeller was 4-1 in bowl games.
Carr was 6-7 in bowl games
RichRod was 0-1 in his only bowl game in three seasons
Brady Hoke was 1-2 in bowl games in four seasons.
Harbaugh is 1-3 in bowl games after four complete seasons.

So Michigan is 21-26 in bowl games for a program that is 953-341-36 overall.

Shaw is 5-3 in bowl games.  The rest of Stanford's coaches were 10-10-1.  program is 653-459-49 overall.
Why can't UMich win bowl games?

I want to know why certain people are not pining for Leach to be fired.  Talk about stupidly stubborn.  He had a 38 point lead!!  He never changed his game plan at that point.  His play calling was coaching malpractice in the first degree.  Where is the outrage?

They are apparently too busy with UW trolls on their bulletin boards coming to enjoy the schadenfruede.

If you are referring to certain people on our board it’s probably because Leech is not our coach (and I’m glad that’s not the case).  Even his biggest supporters (I’m thinking of Phogge specifically) likes Leech at least as much because he is fun to watch and unpredictable, as because he wins.  His loss to UCLA was epic, but I don’t think it takes anything away from Leech being unconventional and entertaining.

RE: Other games - Phogge - 09-24-2019

Yep. Except for when I played entertaining is more important than winning. That’s why this Gator has been attending since 1953 and has even turned down assignments so I could be at 66 consecutive Big Games. Curtice was 0-10 in 1960 but he had Dick Norman throwing the ball all over the field. Chuck Taylor had Garrett and Brodie and for one year a tennis player at QB. On the edge of your seat for PAT’s to win games against OSU and Oregon to go to the RB. Of course the kicks were blocked or wide. Ralston spiced it up by moving Thurlow to RB and beating the Domers with HB passes. Yada, Yada, Yada.

I woke up early Sunday before I reported to Levi and watched the WSU game replay. Better than Cats or The Phantom. The Pirate’s collapse only added to the legend. Only thing better would be a round table dinner with Leach, Teddy Roosevelt, Katherine Hepburn, Marcus Aurelius, Groucho, Oscar Levant and Virginia Hill.

We are here for less than a hundred years. Do good works, don’t hurt anybody unless they come at you and for God’s sake people have fun. Right now Stanford football is no fun. I would rather lose 67-63 than kick a field goal down 21-3.

I'm with you on that one.  But, if I were a Wazzu fan I would be really pissed right now.  Getting a 38 point lead should have been entertaining enough.  Watching the Cougs coug it must have been torture for their fans.

RE: Other games - pefloresjr - 09-24-2019

The UCLA game is the worst instance of Cougin' it in history and it is the coach's fault.  I've seen Leach take responsibility at times but he is very prone to "throwing his players under the bus" when they don't perform.  If they sucked or blew a play, Leach says so.  Shaw would be roasted for doing the same thing.  I don't care if he is entertaining, Leach should be excoriated for this loss for eternity.

Cheers,
Pete F.

RE: Other games - martyup - 09-27-2019

ASU and the weenies are tied at the start of the 4th.

RE: Other games - d4cohn - 09-27-2019

Cal loses their starting QB to injury, and then can do absolutely nothing on offense
with their backup QB (former QB at UCLA).

ASU beats Bears 24-17 in Berkeley.

No more undefeated teams in the Pac-12. Stanford and UCLA are the only teams with more than 2 losses.

RE: Other games - BostonCard - 09-27-2019

Pac-12 North is now 0-3 against the Pac-12 South

Losses by Stanford against SC, WSU against UCLA, and Cal against ASU

RE: Other games - 82lsju - 09-28-2019

Quote:No. 15 Cal lost its quarterback and a game on Friday night.

Arizona State handed the Bears their first defeat of the season 24-17, but the greater loss could be Chase Garbers.

The redshirt sophomore quarterback went to the ground hard with 1:55 left in the first half, went to the locker room and did not return until late in the third quarter with his right arm cradled in a sling.

OK, I'm happy to say Leech should be fired.  But I base my view on his abusive behavior toward players, documented now in two stops.  I couldn't care less whether this man wins or loses. Although, enough bad losses might get him what he deserves.

RE: Other games - qwerty49 - 09-28-2019

After giving up a defensive TD and being down 24-3, NU is trying to come back at Wisconsin.  Looks like they took Hunter Johnson out and the backup has driven them to 2 4Q TDs.  But they went for 2 twice and failed each time.  Hindsight is 20-20, but down 21 and going for two is a curious call IMHO.

So with 4 min to go at Camp Randall it's 24-15.

USC first possession against the Huskies - eight and out!!!?
