Clearly, there are areas that need to be fixed, and he deserves a chance to fix them. And I think he will. Shaw and Petersen are both high-quality coaches who can have an off-year.

I don't think we are that far off from that - if Shaw doesn't make changes.

He absolutely deserves the opportunity to fix them. But he has been so damn stubborn and has a history of not being willing to make changes that I can't be optimistic he will.

Yes we are. Yes he does. Yes he is. And nor am I.

It seems some people on this board think that a football coach should walk on water and heal the lame.   If Shaw could only have done that, Stanford probably would have had a good season.

Depressing.

The comments were a lot milder than some of the ones you read on the Cardboard these days.
I guess you have to paraphrase the old "Animal House" line.
They can't say that about our team.
Yeah, only we can say that about our team.

Nope. Just take responsibility for his (and his staff's) role in this underperforming season, and commit to making changes to avoid a repeat.

O-fer-November - gailtate - 11-30-2019

Shaw hasn't won a game since before Halloween. Gotta go back to BuddyBall, to Teevens final season, to find a Stanford team wallowing in this level of futility. 2004, Teevens' mercifully final year, The Visor lost his final five games.

You called it Gail. You can take a bow.

CATCHALL STANFORD FOOTBALL SUCKS THREAD - 2006alum - 11-30-2019

Ok Shaw haters, stick all your posts lamenting his terribleness and our football team's historic, mind-boggling, never-before-seen futility here. Have a field day, go to town, and please leave some board space for the rest of us.

This board is getting littered with new threads providing different ways to dissect how disappointing our season was. I may be speaking only for myself, but some of us come here to root for our many other teams deep in the midst of post-season runs or highly-successful regular seasons, and it would be nice not to refresh to a new thread every few hours that is essentially a different way of highlighting our disappointing football season, Shaw's indescribable ineptitude, and our program's unsalvageable descent into new depths of horribleness. We. Get. It. The record is broken, the horse meat beaten beyond steak tartare, the milk so spilled and spoiled it's growing legs.

kthanksbye.

Yep, after you've lamented our indescribably horrible season, what an incompetent fool Shaw is, and how all of Stanford football is circling irrevocably down the drain for the hundreth time, the 101st gets a little old.

I get it. The Cardboard is meant to be a safe space in this new era of Stanford Football. How Gen Z. . . .

With respect, I don't object to the criticisms launched against Shaw et al. - anyone who reads my thoughts on our basketball teams (my sport of choice) knows I'm the last one to hold back from reasoned criticism of our coaches and players. So spare me your snowflake insults, because I'm more than happy to dissect weaknesses as well as strengths.

What I'm sick of is the relentless, repetitive, over-the-top chicken little-ing that many of you engage in. I don't need a safe space, I need a pair of earplugs to drown out the tiresome hectoring in thread after thread after thread. It's beginning to feel like the Bear Insider here for how much zeal there appears to be to rip Stanford football a new one six ways to Sunday.

RE: CATCHALL STANFORD FOOTBALL SUCKS THREAD - Phogge - 11-30-2019

With respect this is hilarious. I suggest we have a thread where the acolytes of Coach can blast away.

RE: CATCHALL STANFORD FOOTBALL SUCKS THREAD - VFRing98 - 11-30-2019

No one forces you to click.

Just like no one is forced to watch the games. And under Shaw, (“it’s not his fault!! Waaaah”), more and more are exercising that option.

Have you been to a fan message board before?

I have! Indeed, I'm a moderator on several, including this one. And it's worth nothing that some boards are much more zealous about combining or simply shutting down repetitious threads, especially ones that function to poke the bear in the eye. Again, I have no objection to railing about Shaw et al., I'm simply tired of having the board cluttered with different exceptionally smug threads, all of whose point is to talk about how bad Stanford football is and how armchair fans and Monday morning quarterbacks would do it better. It was depressing to read the Domers' comments on the Stanford game and realize they were more thoughtful about our season and injury issues than many around here have been...

Any who, my two cents. To the degree we keep discussing how bad Stanford football is within this thread, it seems like we'll all get what we want. ;)

Nah .... We’re firmly Gen X and come by our optimistic bias honestly.  In fact, to old timers this whole brouhaha seems trite, old-hat and an episode of deja-vu.

The Cardboard was FOUNDED when a previous board blasted Tyrone Willingham (and his players, by name) to the point where it was no fun any more.  Every day the Borg faced off against the Stepfords in a forever war and fired off the same list of laments and defenses.  No room was left for anything else.  And thus a new board was founded.  Some here can tell the rest of the story better than me.

And, we’re not there yet.  We don’t have a Borg yet.  But, this war is an old one and we’re not Gen Z.  Blame us Gen Xers.

I think a better analogy would be a shiny object. Or a squirrel.

Or, maybe rat bait...  :-)

WTF is this about?!? Completely ridiculous and a brobdingnagian brobdingnagian brobdingnagian brobdingnagian over reaction. Is this going to be today's game thread as well. That'll be a brobdingnagian hoot, too.

RE: Catch-all merged Stanford football sucks thread (if your thread disappeared it was... - BostonCard - 11-30-2019

No the game thread will be separate, because we are going to shock the world and win, and everyone will be talking about what a genius Shaw is.

FWIW, merging about five threads into this one allowed the prediction thread to get back to the front page.
