Sorry, I thought it was in the linked article. ESPN said Fran was held out due to a sprained ankle. Interesting that the announcers didn't know that, they just said something like "Tara is holding her out because it's not her type of game..."
I still can't find anything to confirm that.  Was anyone at the game?  Was Belibi in a boot?

Quote:Fran Belibi, another member of the heralded freshman class, didn't play Sunday because of what her coach termed a sprained ankle.

Quote:I know because of privacy laws, health issues can't really be revealed (though I find this inconsistent as Fran's injury was reported by Tara, wasn't it? and we knew that Nadia had a torn ACL after the USC game, but then other injuries are kept more tightly guarded?)

My understanding is that the coaches can reveal details about a player's injury only to the extent that the player gives permission.

If you watch the 90 second Pac-12 networks recap on YouTube, as far as I can tell, in the postgame congratulatory hugs, Belibi looks to be walking without a boot

People are forgetting about Jerome, who also didn't the game after she landed bad after attempting to defend Slocum in the first half. Not sure if they chose not to put her back in or if she wasn't able to.

Who the hell wrote that copy?  “What her coach termed a sprained ankle”. I mean, I get that Tara is not a doctor and they probably don’t have independent confirmation, but a “sprained ankle” is hardly a term of art.

Graham Hays has the byline.

This team can certainly use a few days off and lots of PT after the weekend too. And I know it was intense but I thought Pivec was a little out of control yesterday - her elbow at Prechtel was something IMO that you could only get away with a common foul on your home court.

Pivec did the same thing to Robbi Ryan in a very similar situation in OSU’s loss to ASU.

RE: WBB: Stanford 61 Oregon State 58 - oldalum - 01-20-2020

a reffing/rules question for the cognoscenti:

In the first half, when an OSU player would set a screen on the perimeter for Slocum, our defender would often go underneath the screener, but then the screener would start moving toward the basket and blocking our defender from getting around her and to Slocum in time. Why were there no foul calls for illegal (moving) screen? Bad reffing? Or, because contact is required for the foul, should our defender have run into the screener when she moved and forced the ref's whistle?

I was there, but pretty high up. Still, Fran participated in warm-ups. I didn't take particular note of how actively, but she didn't do one of her warm-up dunk moves. As for a boot, I certainly was not aware of her wearing one.

That is a relief.  And it sounds like Jones's MRI might be tomorrow.  Let's hope for the best.

Does anyone else think that this would be a swell time for Carrington and Dodson to get healthy?

Agreed! Here's hoping for the best with Haley, but preparing myself mentally for the worst.

Every game, I check the starting rotation to see if Carrington is back in (though she might start her comeback off the bench? not sure)

We have a little bit of a window the next couple of weeks to give them more recovery time. We play Colorado on Friday and Utah on Sunday and though we'll have to play well to beat them, especially the Buffaloes, they are not on the same level as the Oregon schools. Then a trip up to the Washington schools. So we have the weakest (relatively speaking) pair of Pac-12 opponents back to back where it is not imperative for us to have the injured to come back to win.

I'm sure we are all relieved that the next four games are not the toughest on our schedule, given the injury situation.

But...Utah beat us last year, Colorado got within 2 of UCLA in the last minute, Washington was tied with us after one half at Maples, and Washington State has always been a different team in Pullman than at Maples.  Never has it been more truly said that "anyone can beat anyone on a given day."  I'll be exceedingly happy if we can win these next four games with our depleted ranks.

I'd guess that the most dangerous game of those four is at Washington, since if Melgoza gets in a groove and scores 40 points against us on her home floor--as she did 2 years ago--anything is possible.  Washington shrank our lead to one possession late in the 4th quarter in that game.

Despite HIPAA I also fear bad news on Haley since there is no word out yet. All hoping for best for her.

I don't really read silence to say much one way or the other. I doubt they'll say anything until the next chalk talk unless Haley wants to independently announce her status.

Best news we could have heard.  Hope she makes it back this season, but even if not, seems like it is not as serious at it seemed and she would be back, ready to go next year.  Whew!
