I guess we knew that was coming.
Heard that too. He looks like a different player. Also, through less than three quarters, he's thrown for more yards against LSU than anyone. Ever.
CardCrimson, if you saw the same graphic that I recall, Costello has thrown now for more yards against LSU than any MSU QB ever (through 2 1/2 quarters). He might set an overall record if LSU does not cover or tackle any better than what I am watching.
He set the SEC single game record with 623 yards. At LSU.

The alternative will be much worse.
You don't think a creative OC with the keys to actually calling the offense would be an improvement? Think KJ made a pretty definitive statement today, both with his performance and his postgame chat. . . .

KJ under Leach becomes a top 20 nfl pick after being on the bench at Stanford under Shaw and Tavita.
The idiocy of assigning that to anything other than coaching (to include scheme) is just that... idiocy.
I’m happy for the guy. He gets a stanford degree, gets to play under a coaching (well, offensive) legend, and is now on the radar as a potential first round pick. All he has to do is run the 4-5 plays in the air raid offense for the rest of this year and he will make a lot of money. MSU has enough around him to protect him.
Yes, Stanford looks bad, but only for now. Leach is a very special coach. Tavita and Shaw are not in any way special offensive coaches. Just ask KJ.
Has Shaw commented publicly on K.J.'s successful MSU debut?

Really happy for KJ. I actually had switched over in disgust after my Longhorns were going to certainly lose, and it was great seeing him slinging (and making some really goofy mistakes).
I went to Stanford when Elway was playing, and Elway certainly made those Stanford years feel very Leach-like on the field.
Stanford football under Shaw is only fun when it is awesome. Leach football is never awesome but it is always fun.

Great start to say the least. Also got a nice break. LSU has almost no one back. And their defensive backfield was beat up. I don’t think they are going to be very good this year.
Maybe he and Leach will set the SEC on fire. Interesting to see how things go moving forward.
I saw first half. KJ made some very good throws, a few bad ones. They torched LSU down the sideline. Receivers kept beating backs off the ball. KJ delivered strikes. Still. I question his accuracy from a consistency standpoint. We shall see going forward.

In his postgame interview he said "at this time a year ago, I couldn't even throw the football" (after his multiple injuries through the previous season).
"Why has nobody even TRIED the air-raid in the SEC?" Actually, Saban did it with Tua and 4 first-round WRs (and a good RB complement) and they were incredibly successful. Hell, LSU with Joe Burrow passed the ball a TON as well.

Interestingly, Leach didn't say that KJ was the go-to guy at QB and indicated that although he would start that he would split time with Freshman Will Rogers against LSU. I found out that Will Rogers didn't make the trip to Baton Rouge though, and am wondering if it was for medical reasons, or maybe for team cohesion / spirit reasons. Any insights on that?

Apparently KJ and Will are good friends off the field and play golf together. Will said he never met a QB he didn't like.

Leach's style is "fun" on the field, except when the Coug'd it. Wazzu fans were pretty unhappy when big leads disappeared. Didn't really happen vs Shaw, but Wazzu Coug'd away a number of important games.
Leach is rarely "fun" off the field. Sunday to Friday you have to hope Leach doesn't do things alums will regret. Google "Leach and tweet" or "Leach and concussion" and you will get a flavor for the nightmares you might enjoy with Coach Leach.
FWIW - I will take 2 Rose Bowl wins over a few years with the Pirate.
Not that it matters. Stanford University would probably not hire Coach Leach given the nightmares in his history.

I am a brobdingnagian fan of Mike Leach. One of the best coaches of his generation. He has proven the ability to compete at the highest levels with talent that is pretty limited.

Coach Leach likes the "fat little girlfriends" reference. I recall him using it after a desultory effort by his players at Wazzu.
He tells it like it is. If his team plays well he compliments them. If they don't he is not above taking them to the woodshed; he does not lose gracefully. Also, Political Correctness is not his strong suit.

Yes, who cares about player names.
The nightmares I had in mind related to tweeting altered political videos and his alleged mistreatment of a player with a concussion. Presumably there are others that never made national news, but those two alone would make him a bad fit for Stanford University.
Glad to see he found a spot in the SEC, since there are probably many other coaches with similarly questionable twitter choices and odd player health decisions. If he can find a way to beat Bama and Auburn and then find a way "Coug'd" it to Vanderbilt or Kentucky that would be great.

I'm not following. Meeks had two picks, okay, but Wazzu misses a chip shot field goal as time expires that would have won it. . . .

Isn't that the definition of "Coug'n it"? It wasn't just Meeks, of course, and a big part of it was the kicker, but Meeks did have the interception with 3:27 left and WSU ahead by 1 with possession. With a few first downs and a competent running game, Washington State could have won the game without Stanford ever getting the ball back.
I was just pointing out that WSU did "Coug it" against Stanford.

"Coug It" seems to pre-date the Leach era FWIW:

And you do realize, that the 2015 game you referenced was the last time Shaw beat Leach. Lost four straight since then. . . ..

I think there are lots of reasons not to like Leach. But I really don't think the concussion story is one of them. I read all of the underlying documents back in the day and the player came off as a very immature kid who was loafing. Just my opinion....

Unfortunately they didn't "Coug it" against us much after that 2018 is a great example. We scored to tie the game with a little more than a minute left. They marched right down the field to kick the winning field goal.
Also, IIRC, the missed field goal against us in 2015 was not a "chip shot". It was a 40 yarder.
