Of course the hard serves in set up some kills.

Yeah, serving was the difference in set 1. Texas beat us 3-1 in aces; we had 5 service errors to Texas’ three. That’s a 4 point swing right there.

STanford loses in straight sets: 25-22, 25-16, 25-23
Considering we were playing at the #1 team, the results were not too bad. Would have been nice to take one set, though.

Goal is 90% of serves in. Same goal as our winning Olympic team. By my math serves in 83%
Of course we all know that’s an area that needs improvement. Still don’t look for lollipop serves ever

Baird 6 service errors; no aces. Overall things weren't that bad for the team. One bad set and two winnable sets.

Florida just beat Minnesota 3-1

Yeah, I was really hoping Stanford could take a set.
I think we can beat Minnesota and Penn State at Oregon. Even without Sami Francis, though it won't be easy.
Kentucky was upset by Creighton. And Nebraska was taken to 5 sets by UN-Omaha in Lincoln. So that makes me hopeful about those matches.

These tough early matches are all about learning; wins are great but they're secondary.

I actually felt OK about the performance. Stanford did not look like the 20th best team in the USA. They looked like a team in the top 8, and that's not bad given what happened last year.

It was taped I saw a photo of Annabelle with a young fan. However under the tape was the same “fixture” she had at the Florida game

Minnesota at 1-3 is ranked #13. Taylor Landfair did not play for Minnesota against Florida. Announcer said she is "unavailable". Don't know if that means injured or something else. She was dressed to play. Minnesota's offense is not nearly as good without her.
Utah at 5-0 went from #19 to #20.

I don't. Stanford beat #6 and lost to #1 and we are ranked #10? Why not one ahead of Florida? Florida's only ranked win is vs. not-top-10 Minnesota, our only ranked win is vs. #6 Florida. Our only loss is to #1, Florida's is to #10. Plus, head-to-head result, especially this early, has to carry weight. She puts too much reliance on pre-season rankings, which are too influenced by conjecture and bias. Results > bias.

From a Bayesian perspective, you might still allow your posterior rankings to take into account your Bayesian priors, at least until you have more than a handful of games to base it on.
I wouldn't worry too much about our ranking this early. I think we are a good team, but still have a ways to go to get to the elite levels, and the rankings will eventually show it. We did, after all, get swept by Texas, even if they are the top team in the country.
