Second goal was just a minute later, and from an almost identical spot.

No video of the third goal, but here’s the write-up.

She has 3 free kick goals that I can remember: today, v. Santa Clara, and v. WSU.

Thanks for the correction!

Jasmine Aikey Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Week

https://pac-12.com/article/2022/10/24/pac-12-womens-soccer-weekly-awards-oct-24-2022

In addition to her hat trick, she took 15 shots and 9 on frame this weekend.

Oh, she is a freshman.

RE: Stanford Women’s Soccer - ca245 - 10-27-2022

I checked in on the Cal-Colorado WSoc game and learned that Civana Kuhlmann, who transferred from here to Colorado, is having an outstanding season, co-leading the conference in goals (11) and leading in points (28).
Civana was a member of our 2017 and 2019 NC teams, but, because of COVID and injury redshirt years, here she is still playing in 2022.

RE: Stanford Women’s Soccer - BostonCard - 10-27-2022

Stanford routes Utah 5-0.  First goal less than two minutes into the match.  Abby Greubal with a brace, and Sayar, Williams, and Evans each chipped in.  The goal disparity wasn’t a reflection of shots; Stanford clearly outshot Utah, but Utah got 9 shots off (four on goal).  Don’t know how high quality they were.

The men play tonight, also at Cagan.

Also, Sophia Smith is the youngest player in NwSL history to be named MVP, after she scored 14 goals in 18 matches, including a record tying 4 multiple goal games.  Even better, she beat out Alex Morgan for the award.

I just read Montoya out for the year with a knee injury.

Yes, that is very sad. But, as a silver lining, the move of Aikey from a defensive midfield position to a more offensive one — whether necessitated by the injury or by design — is working out well.

This makes me so very sad, for her, and for us fans both.

The constant problem of injuries is a major diminishment of the joy of sports.  Happened to my own daughter and I can emphatically say that the role of injuries was absolutely paramount in limiting her achievement and eventually convincing her to leave her sport.  Kids get started and rise to high levels vs. their peers at beginning and intermediate levels when injuries are seldom a factor.  But the better at their sport they become--the more likely they will be injured.  And so injuries become a dominant factor at a certain level.

The random and unfair plague of injuries is hard to square with fandom, which involves getting attached to favorite athletes and vicariously participating in the joy of their success.

That's really unfortunate. She was having a fabulous freshman season, with so much joy on the pitch. Really fun to watch. Hopefully, she recovers quickly and be as good or even better than she was. Hopefully, the injury does not diminish her joy and passion for the game.

The depth of this team is incredible.

Halftime, and Stanford is up 1-0 on Colorado.  Goal by Abby Greubel.

Nifty dribbling, butI counted five grey shirts who stood by pretending to be topiary, while Gruebel took an uncontested shot from the top of the box.

The men are playing (and tied with) #1 Washington 2-2 in about the 70th minute.

Final score 3-3.  Stanford outshot UW 9-7 and we had two corners to their one.

RE: Stanford Women’s Soccer - Hieronymus - 11-01-2022

It's been fun watching this team improve but i am not sold on them as a real contender this year. When the opposition gives them time and space - Utah in the first half as an example - the team tears them apart. But they struggle the opponent applies pressure in the midfield like Colorado did in the last game.  The team just hasn't figured out how to handle pressure consistently. Probably related, but as an example they also don't have a feel on what the balance of offense v defense shape and how to transition should be. Colorado is very limited offensively, yet you regularly saw in the first half 1 or 2 Stanford attackers vs 5-6 defenders and no help on the way. I'ts pretty clear Radcliffe knows he still has things to work out since he is still rotating the lineup heavily this deep into the season, but it might not be until next year that they are a real title threat.

Other thoughts:
- Montoya was their best player already - brobdingnagian loss
- Doms hasn't been very good this year
- Holy freak Williams is fast
- This team could be much better next year

I agree. This team could be stronger and much better next year. Kitahata is expected to return. Hopefully, Montoya returns to form before the injury. Isn't one of the Thompson sisters joining the team next year? Really bright future for the team

RE: Stanford Women’s Soccer - BobK - 11-04-2022

Yes on Thompson who is currently on the national team. Yes more due to injuries to others
Stanford’s 2023 class is currently ranked 2nd in the nation

RE: Stanford Women’s Soccer - OCcardinal - 11-04-2022

Doms has missed 4 games and played limited minutes in many others. I assume she has been dealing with an undisclosed injury. However, she played a full 90 minutes in the Colorado game so I assume she's reasonably healthy now, which is great heading into the tournament.

As the UCLA game showed, our defense and goalkeeping can keep us in any game.  So, while we won't be favored, a title run is at least possible (assuming Elise Evans wasn't seriously injured last week).  I agree we should be much stronger next season (especially if Doms and Wesley decide to come back for their extra COVID year of eligibility). We know 4 of the 6 seniors are coming back, but they haven't revealed which ones yet.  Thompson hopefully will come (she's so good she could decide to skip college soccer altogether).  With her we are the favorite.  Without her we are one of the favorites.  Kitihata is world class and hopefully will be back to the form she displayed in the U20 CONCACAF tournament.  And beyond Thompson we have some amazing frosh coming in, including Mia Bhuta, who looked great at the recent U17 Women's World Cup.
