As Bob noted, I removed Miller from the grid when he announced he was entering the transfer portal. He has apparently not found a new football home yet; when he does, I will record it in the notes, as I have with the other transfers.

It is pretty astounding how many starters have transferred out. Together with the seven now in the NFL and the those few starters that graduated, you could field a starting 22 (plus punter).

Miller is going to Cal. Ouch. But the timing makes no sense. Dude quits the team after the season, doesn't participate in offseason workouts or spring ball, and THEN enters the portal?

It could be that Miller was focusing all of his efforts on getting into grad school(s) during the off season, and therefor skipped off season workouts, etc.

Miller to Cal! Wow. The reverse Brennan Scarlett. Perhaps he thought he would retire, but was lured back into playing at another school. Who knows. Added destination in notes. Could have really used him this year, but best of luck to him.

I have made an update to the grid. I checked games played for each player who has burned shirts to doublecheck their status and some revisions are in order.

First, I found that three rising sophomores who had been marked as playing five games last year have now been marked as having played only four, which means that they did not in fact burn their shirts:

OT Fisher Anderson
CB Collin Wright
S Scotty Edwards

This is not a shocking situation. The in-season game reports are famously inaccurate, and are likely revised after the season concludes.

Second, as has been noted, there were four rising juniors who had burned their shirts who played four games or fewer last season, and have thus regained their redshirt:

WR Jayson Raines, 3 games played
S Caleb Ellis, 3 games played
CB Jimmy Wyrick, 4 games played
CB Jaden Slocumb, 2 games played

Finally, I belatedly found that Spencer Jorgensen only played three games in 2020. Now, the 2020 season does not count for eligibility purposes anyway, so this is academic, but nevertheless he is playing his fourth and last season of ordinary season eligibility as a fifth year senior, so I removed the asterisk.

At any rate, it is interesting that in the player bios it makes a point of specifically stating that certain players only played four games various seasons and thus retain eligibility. It makes me wonder what TT's strategy will be in playing the redshirt game.

We should see an updated roster in about a month, so not much more to distill until then. I anticipate a significant number of position changes from what's currently in the grid.

After a quick run through the roster, here's what I found:

1) Position switches (or, as SMF suggests above, incorrect listings)
--> FR Tre Williams ILB to OLB
--> FR Sedrick Irvin RB to WR
--> FR PWO Brayden Hagle QB to WR

2) Newly listed players
--> FR walk-on DB Caymus Rooney. (They have not assigned him to S or CB yet; same is true for FR PWO Adam Rourke, who was already listed as an incoming player.)

3) Retirements
--> SR walk-on C Max Kalny
--> SO walk-on DL Kaz Melzer
Seems fitting that those two retired together as their names are almost inverses of each other.

I am going to wait on making adjustments to the grid until this roster gets settled a bit more...

Williams might be correct (not sure) but the other 2 are very clearly not. There are also multiple position switches that SHOULD be listed, but aren't.
