Wow! We might only have one win this season.
At least we'll get the first draft pick.

I also expect UoA will be the last time Stanford fans outnumber visitors in 2023.
Party in the backfield for the Stanford D has been replaced by party at the Farm for visitors.

This will be the first FCS team to beat an FBS team this season.
Not that it makes any easier to handle but Idaho beat Nevada last week.

Well, it looks like we may end up being even worse than I thought we would be this year.
I didn't expect us to win many games but I thought we could at least beat Hawaii and Sac State.

Shaw traded away Stanford's first round pick and second thru round seven.

I feel like THIS is the game that needs a sardonic "Congratulations Shaw and Muir. This is your legacy." thread.

Glad I could only listen to the game on KZSU, and not have to watch. So disappointing.

I have noted this before, but to the extent that the defense couldn’t tackle the Sac State QB because he was so elusive, and also arguably the line getting manhandled, those are on Shaw — his recruits, his technique, and to some extent, his culture.
But to the extent the team loses because offensive players don’t even know who is supposed to be on the field and where to line up — which happens every game, to the extent that coverages get blown and opposing receivers are wide open, to the extent that players over/under pursue and are in the wrong position to make plays, to the extent that Stanford QBs keep throwing terrible high school JV level picks, and to the extent that opponents’ coaching staffs are making much better halftime and game time adjustments than us, that is all on Troy Taylor.
Anyway, TT keeps griping how young and inexperienced the players are, so we will see what he can teach. But he needs to teach faster — Oregon-Washington-Utah could be brutal.

Impromptu arm chair postgame analysis
You could pore over all the skill positions on both sides of ball til mind is fried
But if our lines, O & D, don’t play tougher it won’t matter.
When our O line tries pass protect we are man handled
When our D line makes some pressure there’s so many missed tackles their guys escape
Without improvement here nothing else anywhere will matter

This whole game seemed very...weird.
Why did Yurosek, your best player on offense by far, get, I think, three targets??
Why stick with Lamson in the second half after Daniels played OK in the first?
Why not play EJ at RB in the fourth quarter after he played very well in the first three quarters?
Why not try *any* running plays on the second-to-last offensive possession?
Anyway, I just hope that the offense--or at least the silent majority--accepts what TT is doing. As fans, we'll never quite know what the dynamics are like in the locker room.

I expected our offensive line to be poor, but they are worse than that. Hard to have an offensive game when you don't have even a poor offensive line. Our guys just got beat like a drum, same as last week. Not sure of coaching can do much with the lack of talent.

We are lousy. Looking for positives, I hope there's some improvement on the lines and in the def backfield. We had some bad luck with the interception as we were about to score, the initial roughing the passer penalty, and the call back of the interception TD. But, we seemed to get slower as the game went on, and weaker.
Using Yurosek as a blocker seems like a misuse of talent. If the line needs help, run a two TE set and let Urosek do what he does. It's not like we have a bunch of star WR's.
Farrell should have been instructed to fair catch the KO.
Neither of our QB's stood out to me.
And, we are lousy.

Well, there's that old saying when you can't decide between two QB's you don't have two first string QB's. You have two second string ones.
I'm afraid that's what we have.
I agree using Yurosek as a blocker is a great misuse of his talent. I was wondering why he had virtually no statistics.

Now I am really glad I didn't accept the offer to be recognized at the game as Buck Cardinal donor of the week, for my puny donations.
Did anyone who was at the game notice if they recognized someone? The person would have had their name announced over the PA and picture on the scoreboard. Plus free passes to the sky box.

What do you do when your Home Opener is a "TRAP GAME"? You join the ACC.
Kal opened clunky in Berkeley against FCS Idaho, and then recovered to 31-17... THEY didn't suck.

Agree . You nailed it. Unfortunately, much of these problems are maturity issues. Sac State has an FBC all American who was in his seventh year (not sure how but that’s what the announcer said) that puts him at 25. We can’t compete with 18 and 19 year olds. We have to find a way to retain fifth year linemen. Until then, we will be manhandled and QBs should get hazardous duty pay.. a form of nil.
