Murphy or Tucker will step up and leave Stanford in better shape than most every other team in the country that must replace a first round OT if Peat does leave.Â
My guess is David Shaw will advise Peat to leave from a business standpoint, but encourage him to stay if he likes the college experience and wants to graduate with his class.

Murphy is a natural for left tackle; great fit, good size and length. He likely is the favorite to be the first team All Pac 12 LT.Â
The question is how easily we can replace him at right tackle. But our improvement around RT--at RG and TE--should leave us in good or better shape.Â
I confess to my relentlessness about getting Wayne at safety. I called him "a Duck Killer" when we landed him, figuring him as the guy who could come up and help stifle Oregon's running game. He's much better suited to it for the same reason I was; more fast than quick and much better in a hard straight line than in changing directions or flipping my hips--which I could not do worth a damn. Wayne became a corner out of our necessity, not his. Carter easily could end up at safety in the pros, too. Moving Wayne to safety could make us better at both CB and S.
And apologies if I have said this at least once too often for some of you.

The reporter speculates that Hogan might leave because David Shaw didn't trust him enough to change to more of a passing offense. Seriously.
Yeah it's SB Nation and yeah it's a Texas fan site but more of the same regarding a clash between coach and quarterback:

I was not aware of any such conflict this past season, plus it kind of sounds like the blogger at the SB site is cribbing a bit of material from Sports Illustrated, but this is beginning to get me worried.

The picture he presents of Kevin is very different from the Kevin we've observed over the past three years. I'd take it for what it is: uninformed wishful thinking.

It's official. Andrus Peat is leaving for the NFL, confirmed by the University. It's no surprise, but still kind of a disappointment. It would've been nice to have him as an anchor for next year's line.
The timing of his decision is interesting. Yesterday was the first day of classes at Stanford, so it's not too hard to imagine young Andrus sitting in a lecture hall and reading this third syllabus of the day, adding up the reading, the problem sets, and the papers, and setting it all on the scales opposite a million-dollar NFL contract. I definitely wasn't ready to leave campus after my junior year, but that was more because I was afraid of the real world. If it's your lifelong dream that awaits, the decision is pretty easy to understand. I wish him the best.

Well, we get to see who on the line can step up. Best of luck to Peat, hope he ends up on a contender despite likely going early in the draft.

Full article. Lombardi speculates that Murphy will move to the left side and Tucker would become a starter on the right.
Quote:current right tackle Kyle Murphy might move over to the left side next season, while fellow former five-star recruit Casey Tucker is a favorite to start in his sophomore season with Peat gone.

Tough loss with Peat leaving, but of course that's the nature of the college game. It certainly seems Stanford is well equipped to handle this situation, and it should definitely be easier to just replace one guy, even at the pivotal LT position, than it was replacing almost the entire line last year. The presence of a good blocking TE can ease the situation as well, and people have often spoken of Austin Hooper's excellent blocking skills.
Re: Departures thread - StanFan88 - 01-06-2015
Not surprised. He should be a top 15 pick. I hope he and Carter come back in offseasons and finish their degrees.
Both will hopefully continue the growing trend of Stanford players succeeding in the NFL.

H.U.G.E. if true that Hogan is coming back. He could have a very big year. Let's get Shittu back and Lyons as well while we are at it.

They'll be committing seppuku over at the Bootleg.
Only worse news would be if Shaw were returning.

Surprised we haven't heard official word from Lyons. I think practice for the nflpa bowl already started. Is he playing there or not? I guess we will know very soon.

I, for one, can't wait to see Hogan go all beast mode on the Pac next year.
