I suspect some ADs might have bonuses linked to a cup win.
Maybe, but it seems to me that if they're smart, they would tie their bonuses to a top 3 or top 5 finish, rather than an outright win, because it's so very difficult to beat Stanford.

I suppose it depends which side is smart.

Hey VG. I think the new Stanford present total is 755? ð

I sure hope the Stanford women finish 9th or better. They were capable of much more than their 4th place finish at Pac-12s this last weekend, and we have to hope that finals don't put another hole in the ship (shell?) during NCAAs. I'd count on Stanford doing better than 9th...no jinx.

Adding the 90 Cup points for finishing second, UCLA now trails Stanford by 249 points:
   Stanford  UCLA Difference
Men     613.50 490.50 123.00
Women 755.00 628.75 126.25
Total    1,368.50 1,119.25 249.25
The above numbers, with apologies for the presentation, include minimum points earned thus far in Men's Golf and Women's Softball.

UCLA is a jaw dropping 21 over par through 8-11 holes in the first round. A full 18 strokes behind Duke University. I am not quite sure what happened, but looks like they are struggling with the par 5s. Still early, of course, but hard to imagine recovering 18 strokes.
Without a very strong showing in this event UCLA will not be able to reach Stanford's total in the NACDA Directors' Cup.

Just wait until another school actually WINS the cup. That's when we'll see a surge in interest along with fans from at least one other school tracking scores obsessively.Â
That's why I mentioned earlier this year that it wouldn't be a completely bad thing if Stanford were to lose this one year. I want Stanford to win every reward but ....

In all honesty, I think every student-athlete at Stanford understands what the Cup streak means and how s/he can contribute to such a measure of overall excellence. For the sports who don't count toward Cup scoring...we wish we did, because then we'd get more funding... :p

In Softball, UCLA advances to WCWS in Oklahoma City, ensuring them at least a 7th place finish worth 73 Cup points. Stanford's lead is now at 226 points.
In Women's Golf, UCLA may not advance after today and will probably add about 5 points to their current total which is based on finishing 24th. The Cardinal Women can add to the Cup total if they finish at about 14th or better. They currently stand in 8th with twelve teams still on the course in a tournament hampered by bad weather.

UCLA Softball has only reached the level consistent with their seeding. The concern is that the Missouri coaching staff believed UCLA was better than the teams in the SEC.
In golf, those playing in the evening on this third day are clearly having an easier time with the course. Several, including UCLA, are essentially playing rounds near par. UCLA is #3 in women's golf. I suspect if they only need 10 strokes in a fourth round to get into the final 8 they might be able to make that happen.
In both events UCLA could win the NCAA team title. I am not too worried about the Cup as Stanford Women's golf will be providing points that will likely place Stanford's total beyond the reach of UCLA.Â

Yes, the golf course does seem to be playing easier this evening. Luck of the draw, I guess.
UCLA is in real danger of missing the cut today. Just a couple bogeys could mean missing the cut. They may not get a chance to make a move in the fourth round tomorrow.

No Directors Cup points for individual finishes. Only the team's finish counts.

In Women' Golf, UCLA currently in 16th at +3 for the day with players on holes 9 through 12. They need to finish at +1 to move past current 15th place Alabama.

Yep. UCLA needs to play several strokes under par from here out. Or I suppose UCLA could make the cut if Wake Forest or South Carolina blows up. Or maybe Washington or Arkansas.

In Women's Golf, UCLA looks to finish in 15th place for about 60 points.Â
The Cardinal currently stand in 4th and look to comfortably finish in the top 8, moving on to match play tomorrow. Counting a minimum of 70.5 points for 8th place, the Women's Golf team displaces Field Hockey and adds to the Cardinal Cup total. Stanford now leads UCLA by about 227 points.
