It appears like Lacob wants Myers to if not run be heavily involved in the NBA Draft, which is basically 3 weeks away and 8 days before his contract expires.
Myers seems like a guy who just can't muster the "all-in" energy it takes to do the job to his standard anymore. He didn't report having anything else lined up nor did he suggest he knows what that will be.

Is there that much to do? They have the 19th selection and they're not allowed to trade it because they owe their 2024 selection to Memphis. They don't have a second round pick. Just take the little Donte DiVincenzo clone from Santa Clara and call it a day... ;)

The Nuggets have been installed as heavy favorites to win the Finals, but the Celtics were even bigger favorites to win the Eastern Conference and that didn't quite go according to plan. After the way they brushed aside the ending of Game 6 and struck back in TD Garden, the Heat have proven that they can't be counted out of anything. Plus, the Nuggets have been mightily struggling to keep from getting rusty:
Nuggets' focus -- Keeping 'rhythm' during break before NBA Finals - ESPN Perhaps they might have done better to let the Lakers have Game 4 and then roll up the series two days later at home.
I suspect that over the next couple of weeks, we're going to be hearing a lot about "June Jimmy."

Not sure they have an answer for The Joker. He’s got a major size advantage over Bam. Keller is only other option. Plus you can’t double him. He’d rather pass anyway. I’d just man up try to take away his passing game and give up the 30 to 40.
Biggest issue Denver has is defending the three. And Jokic will have problems with Bam on the other end. Denver played some zone vs the Lakers. Hard to do that against a team that shoots the 3 as well as Miami does.
If Murray plays anything close to how he played against the Lakers, I don’t see Miami getting more than a game or two.
I am, however, “often wrong, but seldom uncertain.”

I agree with Jay Williams on ESPN Radio. Denver sweep.
Don’t like any of the matchups for Miami in this series. If Aaron Gordon is gonna play with aggression the Nuggets will be winning next year too. Heat probably have deeper bench, but starters play 40+ minutes in Finals and there are plenty of days to rest between games.
Murray > Vincent
KCP > Strus
Porter Jr. > Martin
Gordon < Butler
Jokic > Adebayo
RE: NBA Discussion -
OutsiderFan - 06-02-2023
If +/- weren’t a stat, you’d look at MPJ’s 5-16 (2-11) and say he’s got to play better. But the fact is he led all Game 1 players with +20. Everyone will say Strus was 0-9 and that won’t happen again. But I will put my chips on MPJ having more upside.
Expect Jokic to score 40 in Game 2. Hard to see the Heat ever doubling him again this series unless as just a change up. But Murray and Jokic having double figure assists demonstrates just how hard it is to stop the Nuggets. Another pro Heat take will be that they shot poorly from 3. The fact is they basically shot their season avg. when all was said and done (34%) and Nuggets shot only 29%, well under their 37%. Both teams are shooting 37% in playoffs.
Good thing Nuggets built their lead to 24 by late 3rd. They do have a tendency to give up leads, but Jokic typically bails them out when they need him.
RE: NBA Discussion -
lex24 - 06-02-2023
Pretty hard to dictate to Jokic. He controls the game offensively. It’s what makes him special .
I thought Miamis zone gave them a little trouble. Offensively, I’m pretty sure Malone is happy to have Bam take 25 shots. (Most shots he’s taken in a game all year). Not because he isn’t a good player. He is. But he’s not going to beat them. It has to be Butler, Vincent, Martin leading the way.
Miami and particularly Butler has to attack more. 2 FTs is absurd. Go right at Jokic. Hope for foul trouble. And of course, hit a higher percentage of 3’s. They missed a lot of very good looks.
Denver is the better team. Miami doesn’t have an answer for Denver’s size. But the better team doesn’t always win. Miami has been incredibly resilient. I’m not counting them out.
RE: NBA Discussion -
OutsiderFan - 06-05-2023
Well, I may not know a lot, but it was obvious to me the Heat would no longer double team Jokic, would leave him in isolation in Game 2 and lead to him scoring 40. It would only work if he also couldn't setup his teammates for easy looks. The 4 assists for Jokic meant it didn't. Combined with the fact he isn't a dominant defensive player, and MPJ playing poorly, the Heat got a narrow win.
You have to give the Heat a lot of credit, but they must shoot 50% from 3pt range to win in playoffs it seems. How many teams could win playoff games shooting that percentage? The Nuggets need to recognize this and shoot more 3pt shots themselves. They only attempted 28 to the Heat's 35 in Game 2. When both teams are shooting a similar percentage from 3, that is a big difference.
The box score form Game 2 is nutty. It takes everything that seemed obvious and put it on its head. That is that the Nuggets starters are better but the Heat bench is better, and the Nuggets get killed in non-Jokic minutes. Don't understand why they didn't ride Braun for MPJ in second half. I've always had reservations about MPJ and Aaron Gordon just not being quite consistent enough. My Denver sweep prediction was predicated on both playing well. Only Gordon has. They need MPJ to play better to win.
Miami can only win if they make about half their 3pt shots. I just don't see this happening 4 games in a series.

Excellent points, OF.
After watching game two, I came away pretty convinced that Denver will win four games.
But I also thought it kind of odd that the Nuggets coach blasted his team for lack of effort. You lost by three to a team that made half their three-point shots! We will see how the Nuggets respond to this extra “motivation.”
The Heat have their identity. Their best chance is that Denver becomes a team of frustrated guys trying to do things that are different than what they’ve done all year. I actually think the Heat would welcome an increase in Nugget threes, as that somewhat negates the size advantage Denver has.

The Nugget coaches aren't the only ones commenting on the Nuggets playing the first quarter like a team already planning their victory parade.
Both Kerr and Green commented on the Q1 intensity (or to use Warrior terminology, "Lack of Force") the Nuggets demonstrated in Q1. The Heat came out like a team that had just spent three days reading "Denver in Four" headlines and so did the Nuggets.
Both teams are well coached and adjusted to the new strategies and match-ups from the other side. Should be a fun series now that we know Miami can play with these guys but talent usually shows over a series and Denver just has more talent. I'm thinking Miami takes two but Denver wins in six.

Too much Jokic. 32-20-10. Plus a contribution out of nowhere from Braun. But the key remains Murray. When he’s aggressive and on, Denver is awfully tough.

Amazing how ordinary the Heat are when they aren't shooting 50% from 3pt line. They got slowly ground into dust even with the Nuggets only making 5 from deep themselves. The rebounding numbers were simply astounding. Denver 58 Miami 33. I mean that is the game right there.
The first time in NBA history 2 players on same team had 30 point triple doubles. Crazy.
Michael Porter Jr. gives Denver nothing again. Every time he shoots now I expect him to miss. Should give Brown and Braun his minutes. Never seen a 6-10 player be so invisible.

When you win a game shooting 18% from 3 and 56% from FT line, you are the better team. It’s kinda sad the Nuggets couldn’t sweep and win Game 5 handily. The narrative will be the Heat really hung in there, but to me, the Nuggets just shot very poorly and should’ve blown Heat out.
That said, the last 5 minutes were tremendous. Found myself thinking how great it would be if all games were played with such defensive intensity. But they obviously can’t be. That’s what makes those rare moments when you find two teams battling giving it everything they have so compelling.
Jokic led the playoffs in points, rebounds, and assists it’s for first time in NBA history. Hopefully we will see more guys emulating him than say Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to pick a couple examples.
Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke has now won a championship with each team he owns in the last three years. 2021 Rams. 2022 Avalanche. 2023 Nuggets.

Denver went 16-4 in playoffs. Dominant performance. As for more players playing like Jokic, good luck. He’s a unicorn.

I’m not liking or buying the Warriors trading Jonathan Kuminga for a draft pick in next week’s draft as is being reported on from seemingly credible sources.
Do any of y’all like or buy this?
JK must improve his rebounding. The only reason to move on from him would be if they are convinced he can’t do this and is more suited for SF and being a perimeter player. They are paying Andrew Wiggins to play that role and he’s a better rebounder.
It does seem rebounders are born not made, but Kevon Looney sure has done a lot of improving. In his last three seasons he’s improved his RPG from 5.3 to 7.3 to 9.3. But this was at age 24, 25, 26. Kuminga is not even 21 yet. Seems foolish to give up on him for another rookie next week.

RE: NBA Discussion -
gocard14 - 06-15-2023
Agreed. Would be foolish to trade Kuminga for another pick who, even if they work out, won’t contribute to winning during Steph’s window.
I could see us packaging him and/or Poole plus or minus picks for a win now piece like Siakam or OG or Jrue holiday. But barring that the next best option is to sit tight and keep developing him.
RE: NBA Discussion -

Dunleavy Jr. named as GM. Surprising no one.
RE: NBA Discussion -
lex24 - 06-17-2023
I don’t envy Dunleavy. They have massive cap issues. Draymond and Thompson contract issues. Poole situation. Kuminga situation.
Draymond will probably opt out. But I don’t think his market value away from the Warriors is close to his value to the Warriors. His defense, of course, plays anywhere. Offensively, his value is heightened by his symbiosis with Curry. That can’t be matched elsewhere. So, maybe they can sign him for say three years at a slightly lower yearly hit.
Thompson is, in some ways, a bigger issue. Although easier at this point. Cause they have a year. He wants a max contract. I don’t see anyone giving it to him. Before the injuries he was an elite perimeter defender. Not surprisingly, he no longer is. He’s still a great shooter. And good scorer. But what made him an elite player was his defense. Without it, he’s primarily a catch and shoot guy, albeit one of the greatest in history. I just don’t see a team going 5 and $270. Not even close.
There are major emotional ties to deal with for both. Plus Curry, I’m sure, wants them to stay.
Then there are Poole and Kuminga. The former was one of Myers few mistakes. That contract is a “ponderous chain.” He’s a scorer with no defensive skills. He makes no one better. If they can trade him, they should. You can find a 2 that can score.
Kuminga? Question is if his attitude was bad enough that they want to cut ties. It may have been. Sulking through the playoffs on a team that has a Championship or bust mentality is a nice way to get traded.
Dunleavy is walking into an almost impossible situation. To navigate this and keep them contenders is a tall task. I give him about a 20 percent chance.
He more likely will be the fall guy. And then Lacob can put his son in the GM role.
