What are the top three NFL teams in all-time winning percentage?

These three teams all have winning percentages in the range of .571 to .573.

one has to be Green Bay

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - terry - 10-02-2025

Correct! Green Bay is one of the top three, with an all-time winning percentage of .573. (Source: Pro Football Reference, which I believe is updated to include every game as it is played.)

Pittsburgh?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Mick - 10-03-2025

Raiders?

It's not the 49ers, they went through such a long dry stretch.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - terry - 10-03-2025

In addition to the Cowboys and the Packers, the last team in the top three in all-time winning percentage is the Baltimore Ravens, with a winning percentage of .571.

That figure comes with a footnote -- The Ravens came into existence in 1996 when Art Modell moved his Cleveland Browns franchise to Baltimore. As part of a settlement agreement with the NFL, the Browns' history, records, stats, colors, logo, etc. remained in Cleveland and were inherited by the new Cleveland Browns, who began play in 1999. The Ravens are considered an expansion franchise as of 1996.

Do you think Frank Gore will make the NFL Hall of Fame? Gore, the third leading rusher in NFL history behind Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton, will be eligible in 2026.

How about Roger Craig, who was passed over in 2023, but has made it past the first round in the current consideration of 52 "senior" players? He was the first player to have 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. 13,100 yards from scrimmage, 73 touchdowns, 4 pro bowls, AP Offensive player of the year, more receptions than John Stallworth, several Super Bowl wins, etc.

They need to whittle that 52 down to three candidates, maximum.

I’m afraid Craig’s ship has sailed.  He is a member in good standing in the Hall of Very Good Players.

I think Gore might make it.  Much depends on the strength of the class each year he comes up for a vote.  In a strong year, he will be just outside the circle of those elected.  In a weak year, he has a very good chance of induction.

Who was the first NL player to hit 40 or more HRs five straight seasons?

Guesses that come to mind - Ruth, Kiner, Aaron, Schmidt. I think that's the order they played so I guess that I'm saying Ruth.

Did Kiner really date Liz Taylor? Bueller? Bueller?....

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 10-04-2025

NL not AL lol. Well Aaron Kiner good guesses. Which is a hint

Oops on the league-thingy. I am stuck on the "hint" - all I can guess is another OF player?!?!?

Edit - doh, it's about time I got the hint...

Yes, he took 17-year old Elizabeth Taylor to the premiere of 12 O'Clock High. Bing Crosby was a part owner of the Pirates, so Kiner found his way to Hollywood. He also grew up in Alhambra, went to Alhambra HS, went to Pasadena CC and USC, lived in Palm Springs, was buried in Rancho Mirage. Married Nancy Chaffee, the #6 tennis player in the world.

Wow - the added details about Crosby's part ownership of the Pirates and Kiner's marriage to Nancy Chaffee are trivia gold in and of themselves!

In the 50s NY had three great CFers Mays, Mantle and Duke Snider. The Duke hit 40 or more HRs 5 years in a row
Edit. Thought I should check out Kiner. Darn I have to stop reading trivia I get Kiner is the correct answer. 1947-51

Copied from Tom Fitzgerald's 8/17/99 "Top of the Sixth" column:

A BOY OF SUMMER: Matt Morgado, newly appointed branch manager for the Bank of America in Fort Bragg, saw a gentleman walking into the bank wearing a Dodgers cap. "Little far north to be wearing a Dodgers hat," Morgado told him. The man replied: "Son, I live here and I bank at this bank. My name is Duke Snider."
