Re: Class of 2014 - 2 for 2028 - 02-05-2014

If you happen to find twitter too fast-paced and informative, gostanford.com has an "inside signing day" blog going:

Re: Class of 2014 - PrinceLightfoot - 02-05-2014

One more thing to note concerning Solomon Thomas's committment:

Quote:I'm so blessed to be saying that I will be attending and graduating from Stanford University!

Not that it is uncommon for several players to stay for a fifth year, but at least it is comforting that he will most likely be around for 4 years and obtain his degree before moving on to the NFL.

If he is so torn up about this highly personal decision between him and God, why is he making a big production about it on national TV?

Alexander in!

Re: Class of 2014 - washingtonismoney - 02-05-2014

Shaw now, I believe, 74 for 77 in turning admitted recruits into signees.

Re: Class of 2014 - FarmBoy - 02-05-2014

If anyone questioned how Richard Sherman has impacted Stanford brand, apparently Alexander had this to say (Lombardi tweet)

Quote:Who do you model yourself after? New Stanford signee Terrence Alexander: “That’s an easy one, Richard Sherman.”

I think the famous girlfriend is behind him in the signing photo. That's great to see. A girl who was nagging the guy to forgo a Stanford education for her would have been very selfish.

My concern that "The Rant" would damage the Stanford "brand" has been 100% allayed by further observations about Richard Sherman as a person and by the preponderance of positives flowing back from people around me and in the various media depictions.  Based purely on anecdotal observation I would even further say that, those individuals who have continued to rant about "The Rant" negatively do not seem to people whom I would particularly want to be attracted to the Stanford "brand".

That having been said, throughout my life I have been uplifted by those who carry a heavy load quietly and lift those around them both by inspiration and direct input.  Walter Payton comes to mind in the sports world, but there are many others.  That is a reflection of my age and my upbringing.  I have learned that many of today's athletes bring an entirely different set of values and experience to the expression of their passion.  I will always bridle at self-centered and egotistic people in general, and in sports in particular.  Richard Sherman is neither of these and I am proud that his personal story is part of the fabric of our alma mater's history.

Re: Class of 2014 - OutsiderFan - 02-05-2014

So when do we find out about Leiataua?

He seems to be the only one not nailed down.

Re: Class of 2014 - FarmBoy - 02-05-2014

Quote:So when do we find out about Leiataua?

If we're honest with ourselves, we'll find out in 2 years. If he's struggling with the decision now, and he's going on his mission (I think someone said that was the plan, right?) then he'll continue to have BYU recruiting for 2 years as he prostletizes partnered with a lot of current and future BYU students and graduate.

I was not a Richard Sherman fan before the rant, but am now.

Re: Class of 2014 - stan01 - 02-05-2014

I am so impressed with this class.  My one regret is Kirk Tucker.  Everything that kid has said since the admissions decision has been nothing but class.  I will be cheering for him at Oklahoma State.

I share your feelings about Kirk Tucker.  My best friend is a Cowboy and he was very glad to receive an email from me about Kirk Tucker with the subject "Our Loss, Your Gain".

Geaux Cardinal!

Thomas's mother and uncle were track folks. I knew there was something special about him!

Re: Class of 2014 - BostonCard - 02-05-2014

Leiataua to BYU.  That's unfortunate, but good luck to him.  He's going on a two year mission, so he wasn't going to be a part of this class anyways.

Re: Class of 2014 - yvonne - 02-05-2014

I'm glad he made the decision now, rather than two years later after the coaches had planned for him. He seems like a very religious lad, and that may be the best place for him. Best of luck to him.

Re: Class of 2014 - rudruff - 02-07-2014

They need to look at Stanford's roster and realize that Kaumatule is not the 'Smith' of Hawaii.

Harrison Phillips's performance last night - Bruce Wang - 02-08-2014

Harrison Phillips led Team USA last night in solo tackles against Team Canada.

Taking nothing away from Harrison but....

"Phillips and Enoch Smith Jr.., a Michigan State signee from Mount Carmel (Chicago, Ill.), led the U.S. team is solo tackles with five apiece." Both are DTs.

Two great defenses reload!
