Stanford has a lot of teams in the hunt for team championship #114. Women's golf is ranked #3 and poised to make the final eight, women's tennis is in the final four, men's golf is ranked #4, and baseball is ranked #10.Â
At this point, I think UCLA's best/only shot is softball, where the team recently made the College World Series.
Florida is tied for 7th at the moment -
oldalum - 05-22-2017
Florida's
#6 player (who is substituting for #2) played the back 9 in even par -- sheesh! Our #4 player still hasn't gotten a birdie yet.
Florida may end up finishing 4th at this rate, which would be a wonderful outcome if we can hang onto 3rd.

Every Stanford player is at +1 right now (through 5-7) for the day -- how's that for consistency? Northwestern leads at -1, and Florida, tied for 7th, is also at -1 for the day.

Now we're in second, and Florida is only 5 shots away from 3rd. Could be Florida and us end up 2 and 3 in either order.

Aubert played 44 holes without a birdie. Then she birdied the 9th and in Stanford's first appearance on tv knocked a hybrid within about 5 feet on 10 for another birdie. Coach Walker has just done an outstanding job preparing the team to be mentally tough, resilient, keep grinding.

Status report as the players make the turn.
Stanford is 2nd at +37. All 5 players made the turn at E, +1 or +2. No one going low, but everyone had a solid front 9.
6, 7 and 8 are U.SC, ASU and Baylor at +44, +46 and +47 respectively. South Carolina is 9th at +50.

UCLA will be playing in the softball super regionals this weekend.

Hey, Shannon has birdied two of her last three holes! That's gotta feel good.
Basically, NW, us, U$C, Ariz. State, and Florida are all playing well; everyone else is losing ground.

There's a lot of potential action around the cut right now with Baylor (one more hole) threatening to drop out and South Carolina (two more holes) threatening to overtake UNC as the first team in.
Northwestern and Stanford are both at +6 for the day, still at 1st and 2nd, respectively. Florida regressed a bit, now at +3 for the day in 5th place.

Stanford almost certainly locked into 2nd place as they play the final holes, nine back of NW and six ahead of Kent. Interestingly Ohio State and Florida are tied for 6th/7th, as others have noted we have a clear preference there regarding our first round opponent in match play.

Uh...if Florida ends up 7th, maybe Coach Walker could nudge her players a bit and flub a few shots to fall to third...

FM, I think you have it turned around. Stanford is the team that others don't want to play.

Florida has past Kent State (now the 7th team) so it looks good. ASU and USC both moved up.
Re: Last woman standing: NCAA golf begins -

Kent State imploded, thus saving us from UF...
Stanford may be a team that nobody wants to play, but Stanford's path to the championship has varying degrees of difficulty depending on how events unfold :)Â The opponent's trepidation has no bearing on their skill...
edit: If Kent State keeps imploding, they'll push UNC into the top 8 :( Their #3 just double-bogeyed the 17th hole and has to make par on #18 to keep Kent State in the top eight. Bogey forces a tie, double bogey ends their season.

I know the woofing gods are always listening, but I feel more confident now posting this stat.
In 2015 during the final round of medal play, Stanford moved up from 7th to 4th by shooting the lowest score of the day
In 2016 during the final round of medal play, Stanford moved up from 5th to 2nd by shooting the lowest score of the day (and lowest of any team in the entire tournament)
In 2017 during the final round of medal play, Stanford is positioned to move up from 3rd to 2nd
When the pressure is on, this team delivers. It takes a lot of control of your emotions and trust in your preparation (and a sound method) to perform under pressure. Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.

And at least two of our freshman (Lee and Valenzuela) are experienced at match play, as are of course Danielson and Aubert. (I just don't know about Chou).

Florida will finish no worse than 6th but now Stanford is only two strokes ahead of ASU for 2nd as they play the final holes.
And Kent (+24 so far today) only one stroke ahead of UNC for the final spot.

Stanford finished 2nd and will face #17 seed Baylor in the first round of match play. There are no gimmes, but these seems like a reasonably favorable match-up.
Re: Last woman standing: NCAA golf begins -
Spiny_Norman - 05-22-2017
I think the matchups are just about set. Stanford (2) vs Baylor (7), Arizona State (3) vs. Florida (6).Â
In the other half of the bracket Northwestern (1) vs. Kent State (#8), Ohio State (4) vs. U.SC (5).
So you have 3 teams (and coaches) with prior NCAA match play experience (Stanford, Baylor, U.SC). And 5 teams with no prior experience. The next key is the matchups which will NOT necessarily be the #1 player vs. the #1 player and so on. As the higher seeded team, Stanford will get to decide if they want first pick or second. If you choose second, you get to see who the Baylor coach puts out in the leadoff spot. Lots of strategy involved in deciding who to put in what spot. Who do you want as the anchor? Who do you want leading off? What is a good matchup for your players? What is a bad matchup?
The 2 vs 7 match will be the first one on the golf course tomorrow beginning at 7 am central time. And keep your eye on the weather. Forecast is intermittent showers in the morning, thunderstorms possible in the afternoon.

Is the tie for fifth between $C and Florida resolved by a coin-flip? The winner would play Ohio State, while the loser ASU.
