I am also heartened by our offense from inside the arc, shooting a pretty good 50%, esp. considering the defense we played against.
If you take away our awful 3-pt shooting, here are the shooting percentages of our top contributors tonight:
Smith (5/10 - 50%)
McPhee (8/14 - 57%)
Williams (5/6 - 83%)
Carrington (3/5 - 60%)

All in all, though I am obviously ecstatic about the win, my joy is tempered by the fact that despite a pretty good game, we nearly lost the game or at least had it go to OT bar the Carrington steal.

Yes we are not a great 3 point shooting team but we just won a game on the road against a really tough ranked team shooting 10% from three. I think there is a good chance that we shoot better than that on Sunday. Not saying we will win but chances are we will shoot better from three.

Tell that to Arizona. It's interesting how we go from sinking 14 to sinking just two. Hopefully, Sunday is improved over today.

Write up done at the top. Most eye-popping stars are on defense:
Kat Tudor held to 0 points for the game.
Marie Gulich held to 0 points in the second half.
This game was won with defense, rebounding, and taking care of the ball. The stuff that comes from willpower and determination.

Well said. If the Beavers were tough, the Ducks are that much tougher. I'm watching them handle the Bears pretty easily right now. Ionescu is a nightmare to defend, she can shoot, she can dish and she can drive. Hebard is just as tough inside as Gulich, they have great 3-pt threats and Sabally is making waves as a freshman.
We have to put on the performance we did tonight AND shoot better from long range and the FT line and then we will have a shot. But if we do...then all those losses early in the season and frustrating gameplay might be finally coming to fruition.

I was wondering if we would maybe try and go small against them to make Gulich actually play some defense instead of just sitting in the key allowing Kaylee and Nadia to shoot any shot they wanted (and subsequently miss). Maybe keeping Alanna at the 5 and going with Kiana, Marta, Brit and Dijonai? Still physical enough to continue doubling on defensive end etc, but now you have the ability to drag their big out from camping in the key. Anyway, just a thought I had during the second quarter when we hit a flat spot in scoring and needed to make some sort of a change.
Overall, they found a way and it is a significant win for the group. Hopefully it gives them some confidence for Sundays game. Would love to see another win against the Ducks.
