RE: Next starts now (NW game thread) - BostonCard - 08-31-2019

Most blatant and dumbest hold I’ve ever seen.

Ugh. And then a sack.

BC

And a fumbled hand off. Fudge.

Davis is up 10-0 on Cal

RE: Next starts now (NW game thread) - OutsiderFan - 08-31-2019

OK, let's chuck the read option with Mills, and have him run a straight bootleg off a run fake to get the game sealing first down.

RE: Next starts now (NW game thread) - BostonCard - 08-31-2019

Well, three minutes to go. Guessing three runs.

BC

Walker little injured. Fudge.

BC

Gritty game by the fellas, but a sad rate of attrition. Hoping everyone's healthy.

RE: Next starts now (NW game thread) - martyup - 08-31-2019

Slug fest win.

[Image: ?u=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.giphy.com%2Fmedia...if&f=1]

RE: Next starts now (NW game thread) - washingtonismoney - 08-31-2019

Averaged 5 yards per play to NW's 3.5, so in no way a flukey win despite all the strageness + injury in the game

RE: Next starts now (NW game thread) - martyup - 08-31-2019

Those who bet the spread and took NW and the points must have blown a gasket on that last sack TD. :=}

RE: Next starts now (NW game thread) - ADPinWDC - 08-31-2019

Defense looked good, keeping a bowl team to 212 yards total, and just 7 points. Plus the 4 LARGE Turnovers.

But Offense is not going to keep pace with Oregon and WASH, especially if Walker Little is out.

We tried to close it down with the Run game in Q4, and could not nail it down.

U$C is a question mark mentally even though they have skill players.

UCF will bring speed and uptempo offense also.

Then Oregon. No letup in the schedule.

Beavers do not have much of a Defense, but can throw the ball with Luton.

Then WASH, who looked in MID-Season form with Eason. He looks better than Browning.

Didn't we do that against UCLA a few years ago as well?

Also, I really hope this injuries are minor, it's hard to come up with two worse players to lose.

RE: Next starts now (NW game thread) - ChicagoCard - 08-31-2019

In the post-game press conf., Shaw indicated that he hoped Booker would be healthy going forward. Was he injured in the game?

Well, just another lovely, pleasant afternoon in the Wok, eh? I think I was in my sunny-side seat for all of ten minutes.

There must be an awful lot of shell casings down on that field; both teams shot themselves in the foot seemingly every drive.

Just before the half, I looked at TOP and we were ahead, 23:00 to 4:30. With 7 points to show for it.

The good: D was surprisingly strong, nice plays from newcomers like Miezan and JM-F, and NU's offensive braintrust kept throwing at Adebo's man on key downs. Wedington seems a step quicker this year, as do Scarlett and Maddox. Fehoko is the real deal.

The bad: how many penalties on key plays, how many fumbles? Yes, Mills throws a nice tight spiral but it was hard to tell if the misses were blown patterns or just...misses. We miss Bailey already; let's hope Sanborn shows us better leg next time out.

The ugly: the injuries to KJ and Little, of course. And ironically, if KJ slides a half-second sooner, we don't get the 15 yards on the late hit and field position for the FG which was the cushion for the whole second half.

Glad we got past this, but based on limited sample size I kinda think these two schools should be banned from playing each other and producing such an awful sight on the field.

Conventional wisdom says the biggest improvement is from Week 1 to Week 2. Let's hope so.

Note to NU: Trent Green's kid should be starting. You could have won this one.

Note to Stanford: when it's 89 degrees at kickoff, please don't hassle people who bring in unopened 25-oz water bottles purchased at the airport. If it's good enough for TSA, it's good enough for you.

How many true freshmen played? I counted 6:

Ryan Sanborn

Austin Jones

Kyu Blu Kelly

Walter Rouse

Jonathan McGill (kickoff team)

Elijah Higgins (punt return team)
