Ok liked it better than the ncaa rankings. And really liked what she said about Oregon and several teams
Still we must play 3 top teams in 5 days and then we know so much more

Yes I should have mentioned she's better than the coaches' NCAA rankings!

I have 4 season tickets but am not yet ready to attend any events in person. Does anyone want them? PM me
Apparently vaccination or proof of negative test is required for entry, but is on the honor system.
Is there a COVID policy for attending games in person at Stanford - at Maples or the Stadium? I can't find anything on the Stanford Athletics website - which is surprising.

I believe the state rule is show vaccinated proof or negative test last 72 hours. But I expect and email before the volleyball game

#14 Stanford plays #13 Minnesota on Friday 9/10 4:00pm PT at Oregon in the PAC-12/B1G Challenge.
Keys to the match:
Stanford has to focus on stopping Minnesota's fifth year senior Stephanie Samedy. She is one of the leading candidates for NPOY and can carry Minnesota offensively on her back.
OH Taylor Landfair didn't play in Minnesota's last match due to a sore back. Will she play tomorrow? Landfair was 2020 #1 recruit. Minnesota is much better with her than without her.

Stanford beats Penn State in five sets. 15-7 in final set.

They finally flipped a switch. Survived two match points in the fourth and then ran away with the fifth.
All Right Now! (Speaking of which, it was cool that the pep band in attendance played the song for our team.)

Much closer than I thought it would be a week ago. (Though expectations reset after the Minnesota loss.)
Glad they could pull that off. Berty gets a couple of clutch kills in the fifth set after going O-fer in the first four.
Hope they can put up a good fight on Tuesday.

I was very happy with the play of the back row. I thought Olgivie was phenomenal.
Block is bad. Have to work on that. Stanford averages 2 stuff blocks per set which isn't a bad stat but it doesn't reflect all the balls going past the block as though it's non-existent.

I think we are now 2-2 against the murderer's row of opponents with wins over #7 Florida and #18 Penn State, and losses against #1 Texas and #13 Minnesota. Up next, #3 Nebraska and at #8 Kentucky. A split would be awesome, but since people in the know felt 0-6 was a distinct possibility (likelihood), to take at least 2 is a great way to start.

0-6 ? Really never ever thought that. 4-2 and thrilled with today’s win.
Now the next two will certainly be tough.
I’m be there Tuesday of course. Go Card

Spoiler alert: Utah beat Nebraska in Lincoln: 18-25, 24-26, 27-25, 25-22, 15-13.
Edited to fix my typo in the 5th set.

As the TV announcer said this weekend Miner is the best freshman setter in the country and possibly the best setter of all the classes.

Miner has certainly impressed me. Considering she won the starting setter spot as a true freshman from a well regarded junior (Selina Xu, who was the #5 ranked recruit of the 2019 class:
https://paloaltoonline.com/news/2019/04/29/defending-volleyball-champs-bring-in-blue-chip-recruits), I think the hype for Miner is well-deserved.
Jenna Grey was awesome for four years, but I am very excited to see what Miner does the next four.

Today, Utah lost 3-1 to Boise State. Classic trap game: quick turnaround road game after a big win.

Late Friday night practice in Lexington.

10:00 am PT Sunday match against #8 Kentucky. Undergraduate classes start Monday the following day.
Going back to the topic of Nebraska players wearing leggings. I don't know of any advantage athletically. They are more comfortable appearance-wise than the traditional skimpy spandex shorts. I expect the trend may go in this direction. The only reason I know of for the traditional spandex shorts is because male viewers like them which is not a good reason.
A long time ago at a JC tournament I saw a team from Santa Barbara City College wearing baggy, knee-length, Hawaiian shorts.
