RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - crackpot - 09-10-2022

We're at the game. Looked like Smith went to the locker room with a couple of minutes to go in the half. Anyone know why or see him back?

Just came back

Yes, it hasn't been boring.

It's like the 90s.

Hope EJ Smith is OK going forward.

Looks like he will be back.

And then we proceed to go three and out. Oh well.

Hey, at least no muffed punt returns!

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - ADPinWDC - 09-10-2022

Finally a decent blitz to get to Williams.
And they miss the FG.

FG defense comes through again.  ;-)

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - CompSci87 - 09-10-2022

WTF

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - murky - 09-10-2022

Looks like a fumble to me.

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - chrisk - 09-10-2022

Guess Smith’s fumbling checkout on the sideline was too soft for live action.

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - d4cohn - 09-10-2022

Coach Shaw talked about working on ball protection drills in practice this week;
seems like we still have work to do on that front.

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - Phogge - 09-10-2022

Looks a lot like Texas 1999. If it could go wrong it will.

Also good that SC will take its transfers to the Big 16. Now if only Utah would leave.

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - thunder_chik - 09-10-2022

Did I just hear the USC band playing ARN? Because of the turnover?  Grrrrrr....hate that.

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - 81alum - 09-10-2022

There were some promising things in this game, but I'm turning it off now.  I expected the defense to be a sieve, but all the turnovers (and a few drops) are ruining our chances and ruining any hope a fan might have.  But this is not as bad at the Buddy/Walt era--we moved the ball and Shaw has installed a creative new offense.  I'll hope for better from our ball handlers and our defense, but I've had enough pain for tonight.

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - JohnR34231 - 09-10-2022

Another freaking turnover. Now 41-14.

Hey, we get a drive for a TD. We are winning the second half.

Now 41-28. At least we are making the score respectable.
Kind of like last years game in reverse.

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - ADPinWDC - 09-10-2022

We go on 4th Down and GET THE TD -- with Filkins up the middle from the 2.  21 to 41 about 9m left.
Looks like EJ Smith has been pulled with the two fumbles.  Why risk injury at this point...
215 yards rushing -- decent.

Unfortunately he's already injured.

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - thunder_chik - 09-10-2022

Aside from the turnovers, I think we have been playing some decent ball.  And by tomorrow,  our opponent will probably move up a couple of slots to at least #8.
As long as McKee stays healthy, I think we will be okay.  Good enough for a bowl game?

RE: Stanford vs USC Game Thread - d4cohn - 09-10-2022

It might not seem like it given how tough stops have been to get,
but this game has been closer than the scoreline indicates.

I won't be convinced that the Treymayne play wasn't a TD; that
is 7 points.

The EJ fumble at the 4 was really rough.

We get a better call, and we cash in instead of the EJ fumble,
and we would have the ball in a one score game.
