My father had both of them in classes.  Years later, here in Palo Alto, I met RC at a C of I alumni event at MacArthur Park that the C of I president asked my father to attend.  The C of I got a lot of California kids in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, so there is a small alumni base around here, and the idea was to raise some money and use the lure of a favorite old professor to bring them in.  Well, my Dad and RC remembered each other.  Knowing that RC was coming, Dad dug through his old files saved from before his retirement, found that he had saved RC's bluebook that had never been picked up.  Dad returned it to him that night--roughly 50 years late--and RC gave my Dad a hard time about the grade.  I won't tell you what it was.

I think RC had been in an auto accident, if I am remembering it correctly, and was having a hard time with mobility issues.  But he simply emanated joy, and was one of the kindest, gentlest souls I have met.  My father died a few years after that evening, and RC soon after that.  But for a few hours they turned the clock back 50 years.

Alley Oop!

Great thread, all. More of this, and less whinging about our team, please!

Ok, as long as we’re allowing thread drift, here’s an easy one with Bobk not eligible. Name the 4 members of the 49ers’ alphabet backfield.

To continue the thread drift via talk of Elgin Baylor…
I attended Montana State University in the late fifties. Our Montana State Bobcats scheduled games each year against Seattle University. Baylor played two seasons with Seattle, and, boy, did we fans get excited when Elgin came to town! We had a brand new field at Montana State in 1958, and a damn good team as well. Ten thousand rabid fans showed up to cheer our hero, Larry Chaney, battle toe-to-toe with Elgin Baylor. The Chanay-Baylor was a great matchup, although our home team lost the battle 77-78! One of my favorite all-time basketball games!
I never met Elgin Baylor in person, but Larry Chaney was a good buddy of mine!
Ten thousand fans…
