RE: The exodus begins - JJJ - 04-06-2024

I don’t know this for sure but I believe Raynaud may be limited by his visa status for NIL opportunities. I hope he gets the right advice.

RE: The exodus begins - BobK - 04-06-2024

He is not limited. Per my zoom with lifetime cardinal

Thanks for the update.

So how is his situation different from Zach Edey, who's Canadian?  Does it have to do with the loopholes mentioned here?

Purdue's Zach Edey missing out on profits due to U.S. NIL law - ESPN

Quote:Since Edey, who is Canadian, is at Purdue on a student visa, he is not legally allowed to make any money through NIL deals that take place in America. However, there are loopholes. For example, he can accept NIL money if the work that led to that money was done elsewhere.

Edey can do NIL deals when he is home in Canada or when he or Purdue travels internationally. He said Friday he can make money off jersey sales, which he described as passive income.

"It's not like I can go film a commercial in West Lafayette," Edey said.

Edey expressed hope that the law will eventually be revised to allow international players to make money on domestic soil.

Matt Filipowski is in the portal out of Harvard. Twin brother of Duke standout Kyle Filipowski. Since Stanford is in the same conference as Duke next year maybe he'd be interested. He didn't have a lot of offeres out of high school but getting a 7'0 big man wouldn't hurt.

Another transfer out of harvard is 6'10 Justice Ajogbor.

6'9 Carter Lang in the portal. Played one year at Vandy. Stanford offered him a scholarship out of high school.

Zona's Ballo in the portal.

We're not interested.

Will get maybe the biggest bag of anyone. He's not coming here.

Maybe we should have hired Bill Murray's son instead:

Quote:Senior forward Brandon Angel announced on Monday that he intends to transfer to Oregon. This past season, Angel averaged 13 points per game on 57% shooting from the field and over 44% from beyond the arc. The six-foot-eight forward steadily improved during his time on the Farm, increasing his averages in points and rebounds each year.

Makes sense. Oregon's a much better team, they only have one forward of any note, and only three forwards on the current roster.

RE: The exodus begins - Hurlburt88 - 04-23-2024

Brandon Angel is graduating, right?  Or am I confused?

RE: The exodus begins - BobK - 04-23-2024

Angel graduated a year ago. Some how stayed in school.

RE: The exodus begins - Hurlburt88 - 04-23-2024

thanks!  some criticize me . . . yet I do have a different attitude towards those with degrees moving to other schools versus school-hopping before the degree.   Particularly if that person did not end up accepted to a Stanford grad program!

RE: The exodus begins - SkiBum80 - 04-23-2024

Random thought:
Not interested in posts here about players from other schools entering the portal
Unless a known actual extreme likelihood that they will transfer here
Which doesn’t happen often
Otherwise is a big red herring distraction that has zero impact on Stanford

Agree. Some of the Stanford fan accounts seemingly quote tweets every FB and basketball player in the portal that had a Stanford offer coming out of HS.

Read a report stating that Stojko is down to 3 schools:

-'Tucky
-North Carolina
-Weenieville (Bezerkley)

No mention of Stanford.

Disappointing.

Moreover, it sucks that I can’t root for Mark Madsen anymore.  Kyle Smith may end up being fantastic, and I hope he does.  But I’ll never forgive Bernie for passing on Madsen one year ago and letting him go to the Weenies.
