oman, funny that you brought up Rice, that was my only contribution to the band thread. someone said they'd love to see the Stanford Band vs. A&M's, which I think is hilarious and would be even more funny with the addition of Rice's band.
Are there any bands I'm overlooking so we can set up a +1 system? ;D
You'll see some of our fans taking umbrage at people calling us "Okie State," as if the term "Okie" had been used as a serious pejorative in the last 50 years. Hell, my family lost their place in the Dust Bowl but we got past it. I don't mind being called an Okie -- I'm proud of it.
And I kind of like your band, but then I like things unpredictable.

Actually, I'm there's a harrowing story of the Rice band being held hostage by some angry A&M fans following an irreverent half time show:
Quote:In 1973 the Texas A&M Aggies took exception to a MOB performance which featured such typical MOB irreverence as Nazi-style goosestepping, turning the Aggie War Hymn into "Little Wooden Soldier March", and forming a fire hydrant while playing "Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?" in reference to the Aggie mascot Reveille.[6] After the game, the Aggies formed an angry mob outside Rice's own stadium, trapping the Owl band inside for hours until police dispersed some of the crowd and allowed the band to exit, transported by food service trucks. In the years after this now-infamous show, attention has been focused on the shot at Reveille, and that this was an attempt to mock the mascot shortly after her death; in fact it was no more than "poorly-aimed scatalogical humor",[7] the mascot in question having been alive and present at the game.

I'm sure the Stanford Band thread is still up towards the top. There is a way to look up posts by an individual poster, but I've never done it and couldn't tell you how. If you go to the bother, you will see that I have expressed nothing but respect for Stanford. Sure, you will see some moronic posts, but every fan base has them and they are in a pretty small minority. Lots of love for Stanford over there.
I guess this is the band thread:
http://www.orangepower.com/threads/i-want-to-fight-the-entire-stanford-band.137120/
I read the first 3 or 4 pages and the thread is pretty funny, actually. It starts off with a post which, in its entirety, says "Ive [sic] never been so pissed before at a band." People who weren't there are asking what everyone's so worked up about and the people who were there are insisting the band insulted their state but couldn't describe the insults because they didn't hear it or see it. By the 3rd page or so, this leads to posts like
Quote:So can you explain it or is what happened in Glendale some of extremely large proportions f'ing secret?
and
Quote:What happens in Glendale stays in Glendale...
And of course, those upset about the insults were insulting the LSJUMB...
The only specific complaint was that the band kept playing while their alma mater was being played and during the rest of the award ceremony. And I agree with them on that -- I'd be upset over that too (although perhaps not to the extent some on that board seem to be).
[/quote]
I'm pretty sure the two quotes you used were in jest more than anything.
And please disregard that thread. It jumped the shark when someone compared the Stanford band to the Westboro Baptist Church. Some people just can't enjoy a win.
What a thrilling game. Sorry you guys had to come out on the short end, but someone had to and I'm glad it wasn't my team. Win the Pac-12 next year and maybe (just maybe) we'll see you again!

Hello, OP here. Didn't mean to stir things up. Been on the road all day and just now able to reply.
My comment about the band was in reference to the pre game show. I didn't actually watch the halftime show. I understand now that the band's MO is to get people like me riled up and it obviously worked. :-)
