From the Pac-12 twitter: "Mannion averages 427 yards passing per game. Had 88 in first half. Cooks averages168 yards receiving per game. Had 7 in first half."

Off topic but Ted Miller is great. Really glad to have him on our side. Liked this gem from earlier: "Wow…. Oregon State with a first down…. by RUSH! Is it raining frogs?"

Seems like there are two choices for the Stanford O.
#1) Let Hogan run around and make more throws on the run.
#2) Just push with power 80% of the time

I know many want to see #1 as it would be dynamic and fun if it works, but I am partial to #2.  Just run the ball.

On D as long as they stay reasonably fresh I like their chances of stopping the OSU O.  And that only reinforces my belief that the power run is the way to go.

Oregon was 14-14 with UCLA at the half, but pulled away in the second half.  I hope Stanford can do that tonight.

If Hogan gets hurt, the season is over.

Disagree with this sentiment. Hogan takes a LOT more hits when he gets sacked in the huddle than if he gets out in the open field.

If Gaffney does not return to school, we are 4-3.  He is sunrise on Palm Drive. He is Stanford.  Go Card!

[Just one add here:  I don't recall who the poster was (Bob K?) who before the season pointed out how dominant Gaffney was in early 2011 before an injury -- and predicted his breakout this year.  Great call!!]

Can't believe we bricked a PAT.  Unreal.

In the NFL, the backup quarterback gets very little actual practice time with the team. I have to admit that I don't know this but is the same true in the college game??

Yeah. Forgot where I saw this but QBs are hurt much more often in the pocket than running.

Now, if you're saying that Hogan would be passing the same number of times plus running some, yeah, maybe that's an issue...but I think having Hogan run more would help the offense by sometimes taking it off passing.

Additionally, rolling Hogan out on bootlegs or what-have-you might reduce risk while keeping quantity of passes the same.

NCAA Practice rules are even more restrictive than the CBA so they normally get less work.  Definitely less work with the #1 unit.

Perfect start to the half! :)

When you are in the pocket, you rarely get hit. When you run, you are almost always going down. Why do you think quaterbacks are taught to slide on runs?

What would I give for a kicking game?

Re: Stanford vs. Oregon St. Game Thread - dabigv13 - 10-26-2013

Bad snap. Still the holder got that ball down in time....still, blegh but I'll take that start to the first half. Free 6 points.

Feel bad for the kicker. Kid's just not ready. But why is our 2nd string kicker so unready?

Nice to see that the defense is back to making good open-field tackles. That was missing against both Washington and Utah.

I would have challenged that spot.  Would have been 4th down.  Poor coordination with our booth guys.

A lot of teams have first-team kickers this unready (did you watch the Mizzou game?). Kicking is hard.
