Did you say that you just got home? Did not stay up late enough to see the end of the game? Don't have access to ESPN3? Here are the highlights that you missed. Be sure to stay to the end. It will be worth your while.

Wow. My cousin will be a freshman at Vandy this fall...guess I'll be visiting in either '15 or '16 for a non-conf football game, but first, a baseball super regional rivalry!

An astute -- and, coming when it did, a quite prescient -- observation. Expect Tommy Edman to start doing beef jerky ads shortly... ;D

The QB from my son's high school decommitted from Vandy and committed to Washington. His brother was a very good QB at Wyoming and Vandy. I think his brother will be even better. I watched a few of his games, he's the real deal. Keller Chryst is higher rated (#2 pro-style QB by 24/7, KJ Carta-Samuels was #11 on same list), but Carta Samuels will be at least a solid QB. Frankly, if his high school had more of a passing program he would have been ranked higher, but BCP almost never passes.

Dominic Jose did a biceps kiss after his HR in the 6th. after Quantrill retired IU's #3 hitter Sam Travis to end the 7th, the two exchanged enough pleasantries that the benches cleared. must be the Mizzou coming out in Quantrill?Â

Top 16 in Football. Top 16 in Basketball. Top 16 in Baseball.
Y'all are probably aware of the D3 team that won all three championships this year, but this is a nothing to sneeze at accomplishment for D1. Â
Has any other team accomplished finishing in the Top 16 in these three major men's sports in D1 this year? When is the last time it happened? My guess is Florida has done this a time or two before, and maybe Texas and UCLA?

IIRC Florida actually
won them all in a year. Though I'm feeling too lazy to actually look that up.

Nah, Florida merely won the football and basketball championships in 2007. Their baseball team didn't make the tournament and got their coach fired at the end of the year.
Slackers.

Didn't we win the Pac-12 conference titles in football, basketball, and baseball in the 1999-2000 season?

Sort of.
Stanford won the Pac 10 football championship outright and went to the Rose Bowl.
Stanford tied for the Pac 10 basketball championship with Arizona. I think that Arizona won the automatic bid for the tournament by virtue of beating Stanford twice head to head.
Stanford tied for the Pac 10 baseball championship with Arizona State and USC. ASU got the automatic bid to the tournament by beating both Stanford and USC 2 out of 3 in the head to head series.
Stanford was in the CWS in 2000, one of several years where they lost the championship in heart-breaking fashion, but particularly so this year. There was a single championship game then - between the winners of the two four-team sub-sets of the CWS. In the championship game vs LSU, Stanford seemed to be well set up with both their aces, Jason Young and Justin Wayne, rested and ready to go. Young started and was replaced by Wayne after 4 innings (2 runs, 4 hits). Wayne retired the first 10 batters he faced getting to a a 5-2 lead with 1 out in the 8th - then it all imploded. LSU got two homers in the 8th to tie the game and a walk off single with two on in the ninth won it 6-5.Â
Highlights.

My son thinks he also saw some Stanford players flipping off the crowd between innings. (Our feed from his laptop to our TV was admittedly not entirely high definition all the time, however.) Bicep kissing is pretty mild, but if you're going to do it the crowd has a right to get after you the rest of the way. Brutal ending for Indiana fans after all that.
My son pitched through high school (he was Jack Klein's teammate and faced a number of Stanford players who went to Menlo and St. Francis) and we debated whether to go for the tie with a bunt to move into scoring position but sacrifice an out. We were both OK with it. His comment when Edman stepped to the plate was: "He needs to knock in this run right now. No screwing around with a last out." My response was: "Or just end this thing in the seats...."Â "Nice call Dad."

Goodness. I surely hope Stanford players weren't flipping off the crowd...that's pretty extreme.
I guess Gaffney's okay with telling the world that 9 is a no-nonsense, all-business skipper. But this team seems to survive on moxie, and maybe it'd be okay to let 'em cut loose once in a while, perhaps on the way to a CWS appearance. Wouldn't *that* be a storybook way to go out for 9...!
