When will we know what Hoffpauir is doing?

Most likely after his baseball season and the MLB draft.

In sum, Peat and Carter are leaving, and we have to wait a few months for Hoffpauir's decision, but it appears that all of the redshirt juniors will return for their 5th year. (I'm assuming that Kevin Anderson is returning since we've not heard a peep from him about the possibility of leaving.) That's a pretty good result for Stanford. The only real hole on the roster appears to be at NT. Hopefully, Shaw will find a workable solution.Â

Well, the entire DL will be guys who have never started before, and have seen limited (but non-zero) playing time.
The defensive backfield could also see 3 of 4 new starters, though they have one returner who has played a lot and another a reasonable amount.

Lyons has announced he's staying. So now it's done.
Offense returns 4/5 OL, QB, 4/4 RB, 2/3 WR, 3/3 TE
Defense returns 0/3 DL, 3/5 LB (incl Kalambayi), 2/5 DB (incl Hoffpauir)
I think 2015 hinges on how good the new DL is.

It's (mostly) done for the players. Now we need to keep an eye out for people wanting to hire Stanford's assistants. I have to believe that there is a correlation between the interest among DBs and safeties in the recruiting class and Duane Akina's presence on the staff. To develop the young guys, we really need coaches with the experience and proven ability of Akina. Randy Hart too for the DL. And I hope that Stanford has fended off the attempts to poach Lance Anderson and Shannon Turley.

I think Shittu and Harris belong in the same category as Kalambayi and Hoffpauir. Those guys are all proven and ready, even if not technically returning "starters." (Assuming all of them return.)Â

Harris is in a different category because he was the starting CB for the last 6 games of the year.
Hoffpaiur is in a different category because his decision to return or not is tied to MLB, not NFL. We won't know the answer there for awhile.
If you are going to include Hoffpaiur, then of our top 5 DBs in playing time, 3 return (Hoffpaiur, Harris, Lyons). Though it would probably be more accurate to say 3 of 6 (with Carter, Richards, and Olugbode gone).
Shittu was starting to play well, but never started a game. Not clear to me he is proven, neither is his ability to recover from this injury yet proven. I am optimistic on his outlook however.
Re: Departures thread - StanFan88 - 01-16-2015
Yeah 3/6 DB is probably right I forgot about Ronnie, but I would not include Shittu on the list. He was a backup this season until he was injured. He showed some promise and was starting to get more snaps, but I think you'd have to include Harrison Phillips if you include Shittu and clearly that wouldn't be right.

Before he went out, Shittu was playing starter level snaps ahead of Lueders
Crower -

I recall Coach Shaw saying that if Hogan comes back that Crower would likely transfer. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I think those of you who were worried can now feel better that Shittu was just joking around. Shittu has tweeted a lot about training with the team over the last few days. And then there's this from Jordan Watkins, which Shittu re-tweeted:

(I assume Kaumatule is not listed because he's technically an OLB for now. Presumably, he will move back to DE this Spring in light of the lack of depth there.)
Re: Departures thread - StanFan88 - 01-16-2015
I kinda hope that Coach Anderson picks a position for Kamatule and sticks with it for the next two years. The guy has been moved around a lot the last two years, and it would do him well to focus his training on either DE or OLB (but be prepared to take some snaps at the other).

Kamatule only has one year left.
